  1. Hi there! My wife and I are in the process of divorcing. We are still collecting paperwork and I wanted to ask if anyone knows if it is required to have a DIVORCE or whether a dissolution will be okay. In Ohio, divorce and dissolution have the same legal implications, but the process is different. In dissolution, both parties agree on everything and present it to the court jointly and the court signs it off and dissolves the marriage, just like divorce without the proceedings. My wife and I would be comfortable with this as we agree on everything, but I wanted to make sure that a decree of dissolution will be interpreted by USCIS in the same way as divorce ie legally terminated marriage- has anyone got any experience with this? I read a case that said they would interpret based on state law, and since they are considered the same in OH, I hope USCIS will also consider them the same, but will go through divorce if having the word divorce instead of dissolution is preferable for USCIS.

    Thanks for your help!

Use a photo you know wont meet the requirements and it'll ask you if you want to provide a picture at the interview instead

This is what I've done for all 5 of my DS160s and the embassy have been absolutely fine with it every year so (for London specifically!!) it's totally acceptable to do this and just take it with you to the embassy

I made exactly the same mistake as you. I've just redone my DS-160 and I plan to just tell the CO I made a mistake and fixed it and give them both DS-160's.

I don't think we should worry, CO will understand and mistakes happen!

I had my interview on Thursday and they didn’t even look at the confirmation page of my ds160, only the appointment confirmation page so I wouldn’t stress too much 😊

For the UK - No! Is that your Embassy? Maybe different for other Embassies...

For me I went ahead and booked my interview and printed out confirmations and delivery (where you want your passport/visa delivered too).

I just got a letter from the Embassy of how to book the interview but I had already booked it before I got the letter.

The question posed by the OP was:

can I book my interview now that the status says ready and go to my interview without even having packet 3?

and you said no, but then you say you booked yours before you got the letter from the Embassy...

I assume by packet 3 we are all talking about the same letter for the US Embassy that tells you how to book your interview? If that is the case, then @Kerri and Myles you can book your interview etc without having received the letter- I know because I booked mine when my status was 'in transit'. From reading other people's experiences at London, I haven't seen anyone having been asked for the letter the Embassy sends: they have been asked for the DS160 page and appointment confirmation which are not included in the P3. I have my appointment next week (status has said ready since 24/4/19) and have not yet received anything from the Embassy and am not worried. If you look on the Embassy website, there's nothing there about taking the letter they 'supposedly' send you, so I wouldn't worry about it. I'm not an expert, but that's a combination of my experience (not my first dealings with the US Embassy in London) and what I have deduced from other people's experience.

Yeah I believe you're correct that an envelope doesn't come into play until we receive passport/visa back, then is given at POE. I don't have a copy of i-129f either,  but some searches I'd seen said a copy may be needed which is why I posted to make sure. But apparently that is just for embassies that rely on things being sent by post. Since London embassy mostly deals with the paperwork electronically, we don't need a copy of I-129f :)

That was my understanding, too, so glad we're on the same page. I think if you have everything that is listed on the US embassy London's website (which doesn't say anything about I129F) then you'll be good! Best of luck!

My interview is in two days as well, shared excitement! 🤗 How do you know medical is all clear if you can't open the envelope? 🤔

About the I-129F, I've received a copy of mine with a stamp that says approved from the embassy a couple weeks ago.

Regarding photos - I was asked to bring 2 passport photos (5X5 cm/2X2 inch).

    Good luck! :)

@Erin86 what envelope are you talking about? I was under the impression the closed envelope is received with the passport and visa once approved and to be taken to the POE? Also, can you clarify which embassy you're filing at? I have my London embassy appointment next week and have not received a copy of the i129F and have not seen anyone else going through London receive this either

I have no idea why, but I got the dreaded administrative processing. Anyone got any ideas as to what on earth I should do?

Oh no, I'm sad to hear that! It seems odd they didn't tell you why though😕 Remember it's not a denial, it's just sent back to the US, who already approved you, so try not to be too deflated! Hopefully they'll look at your case and see it as approvable, just as they did when they saw it the first time.

Called the NVC again today as our case number was assigned about 2-3 weeks ago now. Got told that "the case is processed and in queue to be sent to the embassy / consulate," but they can't confirm when it'll be sent. :(

Same here! We got our case number march 27 and hoped our case would have shipped April 2 but it didn’t so REALLY hoping it goes today! I’m uk too so I hope that isn’t a sign 🙈
