Also make sure she has filed with the IRS in the US about income abroad, even if technically not making enough to have to file still needs to stay current with them.

Yes, his PD is current, so complete the rest of the NVC forms, send documents, pay fees, then NVC will send his file to the London Embassy and send information to schedule the medical and interview in the UK.  He goes back to the UK before his VWP approved stay ends and waits there to do the medical and interview (should be in the next few weeks, maybe two or three months at the most), then he enters the US on the IR1 and can work immediately (as soon as he gets his SSN).

OP, I would internalize the basics of this information (timelines, costs, major pros and cons) and relay these to your daughter to make sure she at least understands what she's looking at. We so often get people who started down a path without realizing it would be long/expensive/they wouldn't be able to work/travel, etc. that I want you to make sure they understand what they're getting themselves into. I say this because I'm a researcher, like you, and I don't get people who aren't, like my husband, so that's what I do with him.

Knowing the basics, they might be shocked into either doing their own research, or deciding to move to Italy for the immediate future.

    Just my personal advice.

Are you an employee or a contractor?
They are asking for the employment information, so if you are an employee working remotely from home, put the business address for the department or branch office that you report to.
If you are a contractor, then you are likely self-employed and you would put your home address as your business address.

Are you laughing because you don't believe the numbers, or because you're just rude? If the prior - those numbers are entirely accurate.

OP - you received the best feedback from @geowrian and @pushbrk (who are reputable posters here, by the way, and give solid advice).

As for the general judgement by others of OP's inquiry - I don't think everyone who comes here asking for this kind of feedback necessarily believes they can complete immigration overnight. By simply asking for the "quickest" way, or "cheapest" way, could just mean they want to ensure they do not choose a route that is much more expensive or time consuming than another possible alternative. It's a valid inquiry and concern, one I'm sure we all had, in some form or fashion, when selecting our own visa paths. I know my husband and I researched a lot about all available spousal/future-spousal options to make sure we chose the one that worked best for us. This is no different.

I get we aren't here to sugarcoat or give people false hope, but some of you are always just plain mean and jump to conclusions, like you just look for a reason to pick someone apart. Be mindful. We've all been new to immigration before.

Toronto is a preclearance area.  The Op's fiance will go through CBP before even boarding their plane.  The flight is then domestic.

Our LA county certificate did not take the full 6 weeks. It was ready after two. You can call the Norfolk office with your marriage licence number to check whether it has been recorded yet.  If it has been recorded, it only takes a couple days to come in the mail. It might take just a little longer at this time of year due to the holidays.

These are official CA requirements. Vehicle must be insured, but it doesn't have to be insured in your name. So, yes your friends vehicle should be fine. Remember to visibly look both ways (turn head) on ALL intersections even the ones with lights! Good luck!

Paying taxes is not the same as filing a tax return.  A little over $100,000 a year in foreign income is exempt from US tax, but the US Citizen needs to file the tax return to take the exemption.  Unless she's making more than that, the issue "filing" not "taxes".

We just got back this week from a trip with my husband using his AP. I wanted to share his experience travelling with it for you guys.

The CBP officer shared this important tip: AVOID CONNECTING FLIGHTS. Go direct if possible, and find out exactly what would be POE on your route.

In our case, my husband was flying Dublin > Vancouver > LA. We knew that because he was going to Canada first, he would not go through pre-clearance (Customs) in Dublin, but we stupidly did not anticipate him going through pre-clearance in Vancouver before his connecting flight.

Everyone entering on AP is required to go to secondary, and you just don't know how long that will take. He got very lucky, and the lines were short when he was going through. CBP officers were pulling people with less connection time (e.g. 45 min) ahead of him in line. He told them that he had two hours before his flight, but he showed that he was using his combo card. They said "Oh yeah, you are going to take a long time, get up here."
They took his customs form, fingerprints and photo, then sent him to secondary. He was in secondary for two minutes before being called up. They filled out some forms without asking him questions, looked at his EAD/AP card, made a copy of his passport, took biometrics again, told him not to do any connecting flights when travelling with AP, and then sent him on his way. We had made up a folder with copies of all of his NOA1s, marriage certificate, etc, but they didn't ask to see anything.

    Hope this helps!

Quick update - just got back from our interview. Approved on the spot. Interview was 15/20 minutes long. Mostly consisted of fact checking (if I knew her birthday, birth place, and parents names, and vice versa), updating my employment info, asking how we met and when we married, and going through bona fide marriage evidence (we didn't have much evidence, but what we had was sufficient enough as a young married couple). Asked the typical yes/no questions from the forms, took my medical form and that was it. Got back to the car and got an email and text about my case being updated - card is being produced!

Glad to be done with the process for the next almost 2 years!

Ours came like that, too. It's common for them to put the mother's name as "in care of" on the interview letter.

Apparently, it is to help with identification, or to differentiate between GC applicants with the same name. I didn't ask our IO about that though, that's just the reason I read on here.

Lol that part confuses everyone, but at the same time, the instructions ARE kinda clear.

PART 5, ITEM 1: You put "1" since that's for "persons sponsored in this affidavit". That's only you, the intending immigrant.

All persons in items 2-7 are people who are NOT being sponsored in the I-864 but are claimed as dependents by whoever is filling out the form.

PART 5, ITEM 2: Wife puts "1" for herself. She is the petitioner and not an immigrant, so she counts as "not being sponsored".

PART 5, ITEM 3: You put "0" because you already counted yourself in item 1. Instructions say to not count yourself twice. Furthermore, you are the one being sponsored. So you don't even count in this category of people for the household. This particular item is typically more for joint sponsors with spouses. Example, my dad-in-law is our joint sponsor. He had to put "1" in this box because he is married, but his wife is a US citizen and is NOT an immigrant who needs sponsoring.

Hope that made sense. Your household size is "2" in item 8.

My husband had no credit score on immigrating.   I've worked my butt off to get him a credit score that is even better than mine but it took a couple of years.   It's ridiculous requirement.  Makes far more sense to run a credit report on people signing an affidavit of support.

Just needs some tweaks to make it read more like the intended positive. For example:

I have regrettably not been able to travel to Sri Lanka to visit Pam as much as I would have liked. Chronic back issues and surgery a few years ago have made it painful for me to fly in economy class for such a great distance. On my first trip to see Pam, I found it was only tolerable with the extra space in business class. However, business class is very expensive and multiple trips were beyond my means. Instead, I invested in our relationship in a different way. Saving that money on airfare allowed me to begin remodeling our home, which Pam and I will enjoy for years to come.
