When you fill out the 864 you can include any assets you want them to consider (and you need to attach proof of the assets). You are not required to list your assets. If you make significantly more then the guidelines you dont need to list assets.
What visa was your mom denied for?  did not show for interview because she forgot is a valid reason. Did she attempt to reschedule or just left it alone?
Easy answers are not the same as correct/honest answers. You have to answer honestly.

Based on your questions (esp asking if you can omit the military service cause its easier- ) I can understand why the phone rep was unable to help you and things turned nasty. Hope you have all the answers you need now!  If you need more help please post again. Good luck with your process- hope it goes smoothly and quickly.

Net value of any assets...i.e. a property can count, but only the value of it above the amount of any mortgage or liens against it.

    Minimum is 5x the income level...i.e. $5 in assets= $1 in income.

That's fine, but you need to be able to show that she will not become a public charge. Typically this means being able to ensure her basic needs and medical costs are covered. The biggest item is health insurance...this is going to cost quite a bit...I suggest start searching now.

The intending immigrant's (your mother's) assets can be included in the household assets on the I-864. So, yes.

LanaTingley got a reaction from ProudlyConfused in USCIS made an error on my GC which now delays my naturalization
I think you should just relax and wait. Nothing is on fire, you are not here illegal, time is on ticking out 😁. You have lots of evidences and about your marriage, kids, jobs,.. ect. Most likely you will get approve. You also have a letter from them saying it was an error on their end. Proccessing time is always long especially now, with Trump policy rumors floating around. Just have to wait. Once you get your removal done. You can pretty much get on with your naturalization. Thing just take a little longer than you plan. If you live close to an USCIS field office, get an appointment, go see them in person. I find the people there are extremely helpful and very knowlegable. Google uscis appointment. I hope this help you feel better.

Petitions for parents are considered separate petitions and you will receive separate NOAs for each. Was this NOA1 or NOA2? What was your PD and service center?

There is a question on form I-130 (Part 5, 6a-7) where the petitioner can specify the names and relationships of the relatives he/she is submitting separate petitions for. This is where you can enter father's name on petition for mother and viceversa. I think most of us have done that as I am suspecting you have done also? This may help the USCIS officer to simultaneously (if possible) process the petitions. Of course, even with that, as Dee elle indicated above, each petition is processed individually on its own merits (based on evidence submitted with each petition) and it is possible that the petitions get processed/decisions conveyed at different times.

So which number did you call exactly? The number to call USCIS is 800-375-5283, so I'm not sure you actually talked to a USCIS representative.

Your expectation of all the customer service agents being nice is a very high one.

People have good and bad days. Customer Service agents get bullied, berated, chewed up and spat out by many upset and frustrated filers seeking updates on their cases. So if they are direct in what they are explaining and tell you what may seem like them being a bit of a douche, then you can understand that their job is not an easy one.
If you call into the help line for "help" in answering questions on a form - one that I am sure came with a guide - then they would not be able to answer those questions for you and, as with many call centers, agents have an average handle time with each call.

I might confuse between legal advise and general information question. They usually tell me nicely if they can or can not help. These agents must have done this a thoundsand times, it is my first time to apply for a visa and probably last. I never thought I would depend on them to fill out my file. A little compassion would go along way. But then again I should let my emotion get the best of me in this case. It could potentialy hurt the outcome of the situation. 😔😔

Can you please tell me what is the real purpose of their helpline? The one that open from 7am to midnight? Usually, when I have question about any file I130, Affidavit of Support, etc I always make appointment with the USCIS field office and they always will the help me sort everything out or even review my file before I submit. I have to drive 5 hours to their field office but Im willing to do the drive. Visa center doesnt even have a physical address.  I dont have much problem with legal advice either, mostly are some wording question seem very confusion to me, that is all.

They are the low man on the totem pole. they can not give advice or tell you how to fill out the forms. They can tell you the correct form and check on a case that is pending. thats about it.

no it wont hurt your case.

if you have a question or need clarification, these forums are far superior in their ability to help point you in the right direction.

Honestly, if you have any confusion about how a question is worded on an application/what type of evidence is being asked for, you're better off asking here in the forums than calling the helpline.

Try to stay calm and just call later that week and ask your questions directly. Truly those poor people have a very job now since they are overwhelmed daily. But that said majority of them are not very good at their jobs.

The main purpose is to direct you to the forms/process/etc., and to check on the status of your case. It's not to help fill out the content of the forms.

No it should not hurt your case.
They cannot provide answers to any questions on the forms...they are prohibited from providing any sort of legal advic.

LanaTingley reacted to G Walters in Immigrantion Visa, I had an argurment with the visa people. Now what? Please help.
The people you were talking to work in a call center they have very little knowledge of the systems and work off of scripts to answer the questions they are not experts in the process and are not allowed to give info on the forms. They have guidelines they have to use and I am sure there is a limited amount of time they can spend on each call. They do not have the ability to put things in your file and should not be able to hold anything against you. They are low man on the totem pole and have minimal access to the info that in in the computer system.

Also, just be careful in the future. This process is long and stressful and probably everyone who has gone through it has had their moment of screaming and yelling at the computer screen. Losing your temper and insulting an anonymous call center operator is one thing, but if you were to do the same thing with a consular officer, the outcome would be VERY different.
