Sav&Har got a reaction from Shiran in MARCH 2019 - AOS Filers
Kentucky issues a 4-year driver license, specially to K1 holders, even if the i-94 is expired. However, in that case they will want a receipt (NOA1) of permanent residence instead.

Yup, even with the SSN it hasn't been easy. My bank won't let me add my husband to my account (or open a joint one) until he has a state ID. I was thinking of going for the state ID tomorrow but they might ask me for the NOA1, which I don't have yet (only have the texts so far). They wouldn't even notarize my affidavit of domestic partnership that I needed to be able to put him on my work insurance without a state ID, but thankfully the UPS store allowed us to (albeit for $12, grrrrrrr. The bank would have been free).
But this is what we all signed up for, and it'll all be worth it once it's all taken care of!

The only thing, in my case, I regret not having a SSN now (before my i-94 expired) is because in this state, they let you apply for a Driver license with a SSN and merely the i-485 NOA1, and other documents that I already have available. But in some cases the SSN is probably not needed for some of those bona-fine marriage evidence. ie. The bank of my wife (US Citizen) allowed to add me on her account without a SSN. I think (not 100% sure) people who don't have SSN are able to file Tax returns (assuming filing married-jointly) too.
Also, some SSA offices or staff, are not WELL aware they can issue a SSN (without authorization for work) for K1 holders with an unexpired i-94. And they probably say they are unable to unless you have Residence or EAD (which is what happened in my case) or some probably will keep you waiting in limbo for a long time. That really is not the Immigrant's fault, and USCIS should be aware of that.

Correct. Any US Citizen or Permanent Resident holder, can be a joint-sponsor. Doesn't necessarily have to the related to the immigrant or petitioner.

I wonder why everyone is so anxious to get 'back home'. I have been at home in my new country since day one and never felt homesick for one day and I have been here for almost 4 months now. Yes I'd love to go out to lunch with my mom but we message and video chat regularly. Even if my EAD or greencard came in today I wouldn't be going back for at least another 6 months. Is it me? Has my homesickness just not hit yet?

Yes, and explain that you met the visa requirements by marrying within 90 days but failed to maintain status.

Sav&Har got a reaction from icanbenobody in AoS I haven't applied for SSN and my I-94 expires in 10 days
At this point you are out of the time-frame to apply for a SSN. And people needs to know that NOT all SSA offices are well documented or prepared. In my case on our local SSA office I was told I need to apply for Residence (AoS) first/get the EAD (They probably thought I was asking for a SSN for work lol), It wasn't worth objecting and I just leave it at that. I'll just wait until the EAD to apply. There is no big deal either way on having it now or later.
@M&Ma - Reading the official USCIS instructions also help. You have to put: (c) (9)

Sav&Har reacted to Alabamak1 in SSN, Name Shown on the Card?
no, it shouldn't cause any issues. Immigration has your file, and they know this is more common than anything with long names. My wife's name is also shortened in her SS card and immigration still send her file with complete full name on her EAD. Mine is also 4 names long and I don't use the full 4 names on all of my contracts and/or credit cards etc.

Yes, you need to provide the income as stated on your taxes for the last 3 years.
Only the most recent year's tax return copy is required. The other 2 years are optional.
-
Sav&Har reacted to geowrian in Few questions before AOS
1) No, since you married within 90 days.
2) Generally just the vaccinations are necessary so long as the medical is still valid. That said, the new 60 days policy is too new for know how they will handle that at in K-1 cases...the memo does not specify changes explicitly in this area.
3) You must report your income from your taxes for the past 3 years. You must provide at least the most recent year's tax return copy (transcript is simplest). You can optionally provide the other 2 years of transcripts, but they are not required.

2) the policy manual has not changed in regards to K1s. If you read through Volume 8, Chapter 3, B. 4. you will see that.
As long as the overseas medical was obtained within one year of your AOS application, all you will have to complete are the vaccines in your case. In saying that, it may be difficult to find a CS that will only transcribe your newly obtained vaccinations without forcing you to redo the medical exam and tests. They can make you do whatever they please and charge you accordingly. You may have to shop around from the list of USCIS approved CS's.

The posted policy manual usually takes time to update. The referenced memo was released this month and goes into effect on Nov. 1st.

The info from the memo has already been updated IN the policy manual. You have actually cut and paste it above. The volume regarding K1s is unchanged. I posted that above.
If they were going to make changes to how it affects K1s they surely would have already. OR make mention in the memo that it WOULD affect special Visa classes even if they didnt say how in the memo.

Sav&Har got a reaction from EllyLilia in Dating online while waiting for divorce.
When my US fiancee and I began our relationship, she was still legally married to her ex-husband but physically separated, obviously. They were legally divorced a few months before we filed. We had no issues at all with the petition nor at the interview.

Visa in hand. Picked it up today and flight is already booked. I guess I am done (for now) with the process.
Best of luck to the people still waiting, specially Dec 2017 fillers!
If anyone from Santo Domingo, DR needs some help or guidance on what to do after NOA2, at least K1 fillers, feel free to shoot me an MP and will be more than glad to help. I am finishing a small and updated guide anyway. I'll post it soon.

Other than having to wait about 3 hours for the interview, way too many people, the process of today was absolutely smooth. Interview is like conversing with the officer.
