It's been very hard. Being out of the workforce and relying on my husband for all things financial, driving his car, etc has been the hardest thing I've ever done. He makes a great salary to support us, and he takes great care of me...but it's very hard for me, as I've always been very independent. I agree, I hope it's all over in 2-3 weeks!! Good luck at your interview!!

I’ve heard 100s of annoying questions, I even got them to me as direct messages, not once I told those people they were stupid questions. I might chose not to answer it or simply say just look at the others. That’s it. I’ve got a lot of rude people saying things to me just because they don’t agree, which I can only take this as another one of those as step by step I’m telling you I’m happy for you but let others be yet you only continue being ruder for some reason. You don’t know me, you never even really spoke to me so you don’t get to say like a teenager “maybe that’s what who you really are”

I’m glad you’re done with this and it is “whatever” for you, as it is getting to a ridiculously stupid level by now.

Yes everyone will ask whatever they want and do whatever they want. That’s how a public forum works.

saying a positive “guys it will come when it comes” and saying “stupid” to someone else’s worry has a huge difference. But what do I know? Maybe that’s who you really are.

    HI everyone,

Just to share - we had our interview yesterday and were approved. Right now I haven't felt much of the joy yet, - it will come!! - just gratitude and relief as honestly it was grueling.
We were there for three hours, one hour wait and two in the interview room. 50 minutes of that was me and the rest going through the paperwork for my four children so that would be exceptional. Be prepared for a long wait beforehand.
Basically, the officer is trained to trick you and spot any lies/omissions etc. He continually did this, misrepresenting information, and pursuing very specific facts or dates here and here. Some of the big and obvious stuff he didn't touch. He barely looked at my photos for instance. Yet made a big deal about EXACTLY which dates I came and went on one of my visits here and finding the registration date of my birth; my previous divorce certificate ( which they already had) etc. I was super organized with my paperwork and was thankful for this, even though much of it wasn't touched. Things that were asked for they already had, but just be prepared to provide what is asked for, however random!

He couldn't finds my son's medical form the consulate for most of the interview so insisted he couldn't be approved and we would have to re do everything. At the - very - last - gasp he found it. So that was a huge relief.
Likewise when he misplaced his notes, he said - after approving me - he couldn't proceed with approval if he didn't find them...
We also explained he has travel booked next week and though we have advance parole it becomes invalid so we asked about the possibility of an i551 stamp. That was simply not going to happen, nor was he interested in my son's situation. Just told us to wait to travel.
Once or twice he flashed real kindness and towards the end as he worked through my childrens' files he told us a long story of meeting ghosts! But if we tried to be friendly at other times - and even just in the course of responding to his questions sometimes it was met very sternly. It will vary but it was clear to me that this was all training. He would jump from topic to topic rapidly to try to catch any pretence out and was very harsh with me several times. None of it was "personal" just set up to root out fraud and have everything documented
BUT he approved us then and there. And out status updated online within an hour or two.
    And breathe....!
Thank you to everyone who has advised and supported along the way. And the very best of luck to everyone awaiting interview or decisions.
    You'll get there!

Just done with my interview today at USCIS Portland OR and it was super smooth. Lasted less than 30mins and the CO just asked some random/relevant questions from the I485 form. Some questions asked were:
    - Date of Marriage
    - Me and my husband's full name
    - Our DOBs
    - Our home address
    - My Parents' names
    - Our kids DOBs

Thats it! CO informed us how long will it take for the GC to arrived.

Goodluck to all who are still waiting. 🙏😊

First, Congratulations to all who received their EAD/AP card and approvals on the AOS.
My EAD/AP is being mailed! yesterday, my AOS case updated to Ready to schedule interview, I'm not sure how long it will take to get my interview schedule. BTW, I am from Hawaii.
My worry is, my Philippine passport has expired and I haven't got the time to renew it. How will that affect my AOS?

That sucks, especially if they don't have advance parole. But if they have their work permit then they can relax a bit

I really hope my wife's work permit comes in by March, having her be bored is brutal for both of us. Several months back I read a post where someone said waiting for the work permit was "hell" so now I understand what they meant.

And remember it is always a good idea to just send EAD and AP together with the timelines getting longer. You never know what you'll need and it is free!

    Good luck to all!

I agree with this. RFE's are official documents from USCIS that must be responded to with the appropriate paperwork within the time limit. They're not meant to be interpretative or argued about. If you fail to respond correctly, it results in a denial. End of story.

camillamilla reacted to Paul & Mallory in Applying for SSN before Marriage and AOS for K1
It's recommended the first thing you do is get your SSN, even before getting married. It's my understanding you don't have to have your SSN yet in order to submit your AOS papers, but I could be wrong.

A lot of people have run into trouble at the SS Office when applying for the SSN after getting married. In our case, we got married first. No particular reason, just how our personal calendars lined up. My husband had no problem getting an SSN afterwards; they accepted his application with no questions, and it was held for manual verification, but he got the SS card in the mail about a week and some change later.

I wonder if we can apply to those jobs then get them to write us a letter saying we are being hired by USCIS so we can send the letter to USCIS so they can expedite our EAD so we can work at USCIS. Lol

If they are laying all these people off, why do they have 64 job postings on their website, with a good chunk of them being processing official, clerk, etc. Some high end director position to. I'm sending over my resume now. Maybe I can get hired at the CSC, find my petition, approve it, then put in my two weeks notice. LOL

    PAUL IS HOME!!!!!

I'll let him come and share his POE experience himself when ready, but I will say this - it was TORTURE. He was held up for over an hour after his plane landed, and I was a mess not knowing what was going on. I did Facebook Live the whole thing for family back home and folks here who wanted to be a part of it, which helped. The people watching and commenting kept me company while I was waiting. And I'm actually glad I have that moment on video, because it was quite possibly the very best moment of my entire life. As soon as I saw him coming down that corridor, it felt like 100 bricks were lifted off of me and I couldn't get to him fast enough.

We went to Ikea the next day (not even living here 24 hours and that was the first place we went ), but it was fun! Picking up necessities and things he needed. He didn't bring everything with him and decided to just buy new stuff here. It felt nice to be normal and domesticated like regular couples for a change!

I'm loving having my Swede home for good, his Swedish radio and hockey games playing in the background (Sweden won this weekend!!!), and our nights at home cooking together back again. This is what it's all for and all about!! Hang in there to everyone still working towards that finish line, and good luck to all the POEs to come!!!

    We're married!!!!

We got our marriage license Friday afternoon and just decided (literally Friday night) to go for it first thing Saturday morning! My dad was in town for the weekend so we found someone who could do it on short notice and my parents went with us to a local botanical garden. It was just a quick, simple thing. But it felt so good to make it official and put it on paper! We're still super excited and planning for the big wedding in October, but this is such a relief!!

I'll hopefully be able to take a day off midweek next week so we can make all our rounds to SS, DMV, etc. for all my name changes and all his updates. So exciting! LOL

Hi all  My fiancé picked me up last night at JFK so I'm very happy to say that I'm finally here!

    Two questions
    1. On the SS-5 form, where they ask for citizenship, I fill out that I am a legal alien allowed to work, correct? Obviously I don't have my EAD yet but I read this was the right option for K1s, as technically we're allowed to.
    2. Anyone else had trouble updating their address online with the USCIS? They won't let me confirm my mailing address, whatever option I pick (same as new address, or other address).

Wishing everyone a really nice Memorial Day weekend!
