Well, it's a nice tale you told us but it's all hogwash. Of course the US government does care where you come from. Just ask anyone from high rate fraud countries like Nigeria or Ghana. People from poor countries simply have more compelling reasons to come here to improve their living standard so yes, they have to build a much stronger case. Another reason immigration uses profiling is security. Do you really think that a white male from Australia will get the same scrutiny as someone from Pakistan?
And you can't compare rejections of non-immigrant applications from countries like UK or Australia since their citizens can travel to the US visa-free, those who do apply may have other issues at play.

How big is the price difference? With the cost of the visa application  (which may be denied)  plus she has to make an extra stop and has to deal with US immigration -  is it really worth it?

He needs to divulge this info even if it is expunged from his record.

I took a job two levels below the one I had in Australia and one that paid nearly 50% less than what I was paid in Australia.  I did that because I knew I had to get American experience.  I also figured the drop would be a short term one because I'm good at my job: I gambled on my organization recognizing I could do more.  And they did.  Within six months I was promoted.

Not meaning to be blunt, but drop the pride and ego.  It won't work here.  However big you were in your country, you're in the US now.  I was a big fish in a little pond.  It reversed when I got here.  It hurt but it is what it is.  Prove to the Americans how good you are.  Don't tell them and expect them to believe you.  If you're as good as you think you are, you'll prevail in time.

And your plan of visiting every six months won't work.  You will get hauled in front of an immigration judge at some stage and, if you haven't maintained sufficient ties (residence, bank accounts, filing taxes) you'll lose the green card.

I believe "Did you pay for your ticket" is a part of security screening along with "did you pack your bag yourself". Immigration won't care.

You didn't fill in your timeline but since you are a conditional resident I can assume that you came here and married you husband  in the last 2 years. I just wonder when  and where you met and fell in love with your girlfriend who resides in Hong Kong. It looks like a lot is happening in your life at the same time.

The only abuse here is the abuse of VAWA. Just because a guy had a change of heart and went back to his ex doesn't mean you can claim abuse. Is your TPS about to expire?

Seriously people, doesn't this story sound a bit off? A strict aunt demands that her nephew/niece tours the U.S. for the full 5 months before being allowed to go back. She'll pay for 5 months but not for 2 months. It sounds to me like OP wants to know if that story will work at a POE. It won't. They've heard them all. Their answer will likely be "we'll take care of your return ticket".
