A new policy from the Trump administration could leave thousands of immigrants scrambling to keep their jobs while they await renewals of their work permits.

Previously, many immigrants were able to extend their work permits automatically upon submission of a renewal application. Now, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services is doing away with that policy, and forcing people to wait until a renewal request is approved before any extension. ( Read More )

K1 is non immigrant

 

they would be adjusting to immigrant and seems most get GC before EAD

Is he (Trump) going outside the law as written today?  Did the law state these EAD renewals must be approved without scrutiny?  While I agree this will slow things down, I don’t see it as Trump or USCIS creating new law unless you can show otherwise.

Isn't the initial authorization period for a C9 category  5 years?  I don't see this affecting people adjusting status.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

AOS gets theirs under filing category (c)(9) and it's valid for 5 years when issued. If you are in a spot where you are facing renewing that EAD, you have much bigger issues to worry about, like why has your I-485 not been approved yet :)
