Had my interview earlier. Everything went well. Recommend for approval :)

No oath date yet. I was the last interview of the day (the waiting room was empty and dark when I left!). I got the in line for oath scheduling as well as the quality review note at the same time. He said I should get my oath ceremony letter pretty quickly.

Aww thank you! Back when I did my CR1 visa and then ROC we had trackers in the thread and I liked how easy it made keeping up with all the updates. Hoping to hear from @Lanzoni who had their interview last week, @Elethiomel who was scheduled for today and fingers crossed for @jm06 tomorrow! Let us know how it went and if you have an oath date ;)

Talking about it I noticed that our tracker got messed up on mobile because I increased the text size to make it easier to read, so let's try a little less big:

Last Thursday I had my naturalization interview in Houston. I just wanted to share my experience. The appointment was at 10:10am and I was at the door at 9:50am when I was asked for the appointment notice. I went through security and when I was putting my belt back I heard an officer shout my name on the hallway. He then rapidly conducted me inside his room down the hallway. No pictures or fingerprints were taken. And the only documents he asked for were my passport, my driver’s license and my LPR card. He started with the civics questions, which he probably stopped before 10. It seems like he was typing my questions. Then he asked me to read one sentence and to write another sentence in his tablet, after spending a minute or two to make it work. Then he asked me if I support the constitution and some other questions after that in the form, including if I understood the oath and its requirements. Then he asked me to confirm some personal information in the tablet. At that point he already had the results form filled out and ready to hand it to me, which he did right after that. The officer seemed to be in a rush and at some point mumbled something about something going on over there at 10am. He said I should be getting the appointment in the mail. I asked if there’s a way to expedite due to urgent family matters back home and he said that he can’t do anything about it. I’d say the whole thing lasted 15-20 minutes. Since then I got a notice that I was recommended for approval and another one saying that I was going to get the oath ceremony scheduled. But from what I hear around here it takes at least two weeks. Let me know if y’all have any questions.

Hi all,

I was a silent reader for the last few days on this topic and wanted to share my experience with everyone else going through this process:

Personal:

  • EU citizen
  • 10 year GC (received in Fall of 2019)
  • Married since 2016 (outside of the U.S.) to U.S. born citizen wife (together for almost 15 years at this point)

Timeline:

  • Applied for N400 (3-year rule): 02.14.24 (Philadelphia)
  • Biometrics reused: a few days later
  • Interview notice date: 02.22.24
  • Interview (today): 04.10.24 in the morning
  • Current status: oath ceremony will be scheduled

Important notice:

  • Please plan extra time to arrive at your interview location. I got up at 5:30 am this morning to be there by 8:00 (about 1:15 hours drive to office), but got into a lot of traffic, construction, closed roads which gave me anxiety that I will not make it on time. Arrived in front of the building 10 minutes prior, had to pay for parking, the app did not work, so had to use credit card. There was a long line in front of the security check, and I had the feeling all the people in front of me never go through TSA, because they did not know what to do and the line moved very slowly. Made it to the check-in with just two minutes to spare, e.g. really on-time. After check-in you walk upstairs to the waiting room, where I sat down a minute before my interview time.

Interview:

  • I waited about 20 minutes, before I was called in by a very polite and friendly officer
  • In the room, he had me remain standing to swear me in. I had to rise my right hand and confirm that I will be saying the truth.
  • Questions:
    • Officer asked for my name, date of birth, address, phone number
    • Then proceeded to the test with the following questions:
      • What is freedom of religion
      • What do the 13 stripes stand for
      • the question you answer with We The People
      • How old do citizens have to be to vote for President
      • and three more I cant remember any more, but if you really live in the US you should know these questions without a lot of studying
    • Then had me read a sentence on an ipad
    • Write a sentence he dictated on the ipad (the stylo was not working correctly and my cursive handwriting was not very helpful)
    • Asked a number of different questions from the application, e.g
      • Did I register to vote in any elections, etc.
      • Member of any organisations, parties, etc.
      • Convictions
      • Crime, etc.
      • willing to take the full oath
      • willing to carry arms
      • Willing to defend the constitution
    • Asked if there was a time that my wife and I have not been living together
  • After that I had to sign the forms on the Ipad (two different signatures)

Officer informed me that he will recommend me for approval and that I will get a letter in the mail within the next week or 10 days with invitation to take the oath. A few minutes after I left the status changed to oath ceremony will be scheduled.

Hope this helps. If there are any questions just ask!

Best wishes everyone

Thought I'd give a brief update.

My Oath Ceremony was scheduled for June 20th just now. Still no "Your application was approved" status though, so I'm guessing they schedule it pending the outcome of the supervisor formally signing off.

Looking forward to the big day!

And I don't actually remember my civics questions other than there were six and I got them all right, just that I provided ID, was sworn in.  I was pretty anxious at the time but I did get a comment that "these are too easy for you".

After civics we did the linguistic exam. All easy as a native English speaker.

Then we had a review of the paperwork I brought, he didn't copy anything just checked it.

We then reviewed the Yes/No questions.

I answered yes on two so he took a little information (the paramilitary one, I said in my application I didn't think having been a civilian instructor for the equivalent to JROTC in the UK counted, but as I was a civilian in uniform doing military style training, the relevant statute might apply. The UK equivalent to the JROTC is the "Army Cadet Force", it's a civilian youth organization (with some support from the Army), it focuses on personal development for young people through a uniformed setting. Also similar to the Boy Scouts or Young Marines in the US.

I declared this on my application out of an abundance of caution, and the yes answer to weapons training for the same reason. The officer just asked a few questions and didn't seem concerned with it.

We then went over if I was willing to sign the citizenship oath, showed me how my details would be formatted on my certificate and had me check and sign... And then handed me the interview form with recommended for approval checked. He shook my hand and congratulated me on the way out.

@Laure&Colin I just left the building. Application recommended for approval and waiting for ceremony date.
last interview of the day so the office was empty.
Seemed like the officer was ready to go home so our interview lasted less than 5 min.

Thought I'd give a brief update.

My Oath Ceremony was scheduled for June 20th just now. Still no "Your application was approved" status though, so I'm guessing they schedule it pending the outcome of the supervisor formally signing off.

Looking forward to the big day!

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I believe once your oath is schedule it means you've been approved. Only thing left to become a citizen is for you to formally take the oath.
