I'm posting to those who run VisaJourney.com. Several of the Embassy's now are requiring a documents review prior to your visa interview. The purpose of this pre-interview/documents review is to get your documents in order for your upcoming interview. This pre-interview is required for the embassy my fiancé is interviewing at. If you miss the pre-interview, your actual interview is CANCELLED. I would recommend VisaJourney enters this as an optional field for the visa timeline, and if anyone has questions on the pre-interview, we can use this forum to answer them here.

Hi!

I would love to hear more about what the pre-interview process was like for you and your fiancé. Was it a physical visit to the embassy, mailing a packet, or submitting documents online?

Also did you get anything like a request for evidence/additional documentation or just a general approval?

Thank you for sharing!

Embassy-specific.  No DOS announcement that a separate pre-interview appointment will be required in all consulates.

This is a good topic as it may change your departure plans. I just finished the interview process for the K1 visa with my my fiance here in Ciudad Juarez. The original letter we received for the immigration interview, was actually an appointment to drop of several documents ( fiance passport, birth certificate, background check, DS-160, and appointment letter). After providing the documents, she was given an appointment for the following morning for the interview and provide the remaining paperwork (sponsor birth certificate and proof of prior divorce). They did not collect our I-134 financial documents. She was informed of approval at the end of the interview and they estimated a week to receive her passport and visa back via DHL.

Best of luck everyone!

Update on our pre-interview experience in Honduras for CR-1 marriage visa.

Received interview appointment in November with a Jan 17 date.

Received pre-interview appointment later in December with a Jan 3rd date. Pre-interview appointment was physical at the embassy, entered and was asked one by one for the list of documents required. They put all the given documents into an official embassy folder, checking that they were online as well, and returned it. They stated to bring this folder to the interview. It included a list on the front marked with a missing document, we missed uploading one of the documents we had to the online portal. Took less than 1.5 hours total, with waiting in line outside for an hour to enter.

Does anyone know more about the pre interview process, like when do they give the appoint? Is it after the medical exam? We keep checking our emails and haven’t received anything and are closing in on our embassy appointment for the k1 visa

Here is how it worked for us in Honduras, the pre-interview was about 1 month before the visa appointment. The embassy just emailed us a time. It seemed highly impersonal and I wish there was more notice to it. There isn’t much guidance besides the documents you’re expected to have. From what we ecperienced the medical exam is part of a whole separate thing. It doesn’t matter which one comes first, the pre-interview or the medical appointment. What matters is getting them both done before your interview.
