MyChart - Medical System

Hi, I have moved to the US about 1yr ago, and am going through the motions of finding a PCP (primary care provider), and seeing a few specialists, getting a few exams (in 2 different states). 

They all talk about MYCHART, I have no idea what it is though, is it a national individualized health portal ? Or do I have to sign up for the specific regional MyChart service?

Can anybody give me a crash course on this MyChart system and guide me in the right direction here?

From what I hear, it's an awesome tool, but I signed up for it with my SSN and it looks regional and has no records of my previous visits.

 

I'm just trying to retrieve a few exam results and forward it to an occupational doctor.

Only a small number of health providers are linked into MyHealth. Access has to be granted from both you and the provider before you can access records. 
Try the old fashioned way.. want dr B to have access to your records held by Dr A? Sign a form with A allowing them to send your records to B.. or sign the form with B allowing them to request results from A

There is no national health care portal in the US.  I think CVS uses Mychart.  These databases are provider-network specific.

It is regional and frankly whatever healthcare providers you’re going to should have all the information you need to help you sign up with them. Maybe pay them a visit and ask at reception? I use it, it’s ok but it’s not always accurate or up to date.

It's a medical database and patient information system used by medical providers.  Your care provider may have their own branded app to access their MyChart system, so you should ask them how to access it.  For example, our provider uses the MyChart system, but they want us to use their MyOchsner app to access it.

different provider different system. like where i live now, some of my provider is using mychart, some not. 

that app on the phone, has list of many2 hospital provider, it just easy access ( using 1 app ) if ur provider supported it.

 

even if ur provider doesnt have mychart, they usually have something similar but different app / name.

It’s simply a portal for you to exchange info with your provider.

 

Where I live, many of the hospitals and providers use an electronic medical record software called Epic, and they can share info via a function called “care everywhere.”   So I can see my patient’s labs that were collected at another facility, etc.

 

Not sure about other states, but here in Washington, there are centralized databases (which interface with pharmacies too) which monitor all patient opiate prescriptions and ER visits, regardless of where in the state they were done.

It's a web based patient portal that someone has created and commercially offered to health providers - like others said - some use it, some don't. If your provider uses it, it makes things easier for you - but first you need to have one. Your account (as far as I know) will only work with your particular provider (healthcare providers in US are businesses and they're regional).

This became a major problem when Obama decreed that all health records should be electronic -- too many systems, not all readily intercommunicative.  It's still so much of a thorn in the side of hospitals and providers everywhere that people suggest tearing out the system by the roots and starting over.
