I don't disagree about the Democrats, but it was the independents that ran away from Trump.  Compare how Vance and DeWine performed in Ohio.  Vance was a Trump endorsed candidate, but he stuck to the issues and did not rely entirely on Trump, and even with that, he underperformed as compared to DeWine.  Heck, in PA, they voted in a joke of a candidate, a guy that was a trust fund kid, never amounted to anything, has a questionable history, and is a Democrat where that Party's leadership has promised to end some really good jobs.  Whatever.

They aren’t idiots in Florida. 
 

A solid purple state became a solid red state last night.  Two perennially high population blue counties went  solidly red. 

A principled Governor can make all the difference.  Remember the cluster of the 2000 Florida election? Look how smooth DeSantis has made elections there in 2020 and 2022.  
 

And only one GOP Governor has principles in the USA.  
 

If trends hold on Arizona we will have two soon (maybe by July 2023).

I also think it has something to do with the quality of candidates with R by their name.  Maybe people are deciding that just because someone is famous or is able to throw witty insults at somebody that doesn't make them a good candidate.  Maybe it's time for primary voters to choose serious candidates.

I base my vote on POLICY, not personality.   Maybe it's time for people think past the end of their noses. Maybe it's time for people to realize that Biden and the dems have caused our inflation crisis, border crisis, crime crisis.

As far as I could tell in the real world there was a distinct lack of enthusiasm, for example I saw one person with a I Voted sticker and bumped into some people who I know yesterday and there was a couple of minutes of general mumbling.

 

Who wins seems to be more who screws up less, and all the GOP had to do was avoid doing so but could not help themselves.

 

I expected the GOP to just get the House and was not sure about the Senate and that seems still likely, the Media failed again in the presumption of the results but nothing new there.

 

If the Dems had any sense they would lay off Trump and hope he runs, they do not. And vice versa.

This is something that seems clear.  I give credit to Trump for showing GOP leaders they can fight back, but his method of fighting back is what turns people off.  DeSantis certainly has not shied away from a fight but he does it with receipts, and he was rewarded.  I certainly hope the trend holds in AZ.

If the Dems keep the Senate, even at 50/50, Biden will be emboldened, so I expect more of the same unfortunately.

I am curious of the Dem strategy as well.  They will eventually run out of gas with their Jan 6, loss of Democracy mantra, but it appears that Trump is going to make his announcement soon, so I expect a lot of talking points coming out from the Left.

A local radio host makes the point that people who can afford to move out of Democrat-run states and cities are doing so.  They typically go to Florida, Texas, and Nashville, or simply farther into the boonies where they are.  This makes red states redder and purple states blue.

No disagreement but...it looks like a celebrity senate candidate lost to a guy who might actually be mentally impaired.  It doesn't do any good to just get angry at the stupidity of the voters.  It is more helpful to try to figure out how to make sure that doesn't happen again.

Frankly, I'm tired of the Trump drama, and just want a Conservative to run who will get down to the business of fixing the border, military, and economy without a ton of drama. I liked Trump's ideas, but not the childish drama, which just played into the hands of  other childish people that further mucked up the waters
