We all know how tolerant the Left is.  Honestly, I really never saw the value of the Royal Family.  They seem to sort of a cross between a family on the public dole and a organized crime family, but they are a family nevertheless.

Wow, NB showing his math skills.    You are right of course, 61 minus 70+ is a negative number so she was queen your entire life, unless of course you believe in reincarnation.

10 when she became Queen. 15 when she died.  People made the choice to have her as their Queen.  People even made the conscious choice to retain her as their Queen.  Probably because they learned   that preventing a presidential republic from turning into a circus is hard compared to the ease of stamping coins with her image and calling it a day.

She has a case for being the GOAT and I for one will miss her.

The reign of King William V cannot start soon enough.  I am going to have  trouble seeing Charles’ smug mug on coins and bills.  The era of the woke and political monarch has started. Long Live the  King of course but please abdicate after mum’s state funeral.

There are multi-generations of families in the UK that have only ever known the monarch as the Queen. The only one left in my husband's family that would have known another monarch, is his grandfather... and unfortunately Alzheimers has taken his mind.

There's a lot of negative comments out there... but we should remember that it is free speech, and some people truly do have negative emotions and thoughts about the monarchy. I don't dismiss those comments, because there is nothing inherently wrong in pointing out what is bad about the monarchy and the wrongs of the Empire. Afterall, we fought a war about that didn't we? For whatever reason though, Americans sometimes tend to go stir-crazy about monarchy even more so than the Brits. Some comments are actually so pro-monarchist as to be disturbing. So when you see comments in the negative, remember that there are some really sicking takes from some Americans that might on some level still believe that having a ruler is ordained by God. Not even most Brits would entertain that thought. And still others find the whole thing a parasite-relationship and it dredges up some really negative feelings. Those people are often going to write loaded thesis questions on the history and brutality of the Empire, and how even though she was seen as kindly, still represented it.

As this article from the Irish times once put it:

Quote

Having a monarchy next door is a little like having a neighbour who’s really into clowns and has daubed their house with clown murals, displays clown dolls in each window and has an insatiable desire to hear about and discuss clown-related news stories. More specifically, for the Irish, it’s like having a neighbour who’s really into clowns and, also, your grandfather was murdered by a clown.

Beyond this, it’s the stuff of children’s stories. Having a queen as head of state is like having a pirate or a mermaid or Ewok as head of state. What’s the logic? Bees have queens, but the queen bee lays all of the eggs in the hive. The queen of the Britons has laid just four British eggs, and one of those is the sweatless creep Prince Andrew, so it’s hardly deserving of applause. https://www.irishtimes.com/culture/tv-radio-web/harry-and-meghan-the-union-of-two-great-houses-the-windsors-and-the-celebrities-is-complete-1.4504502

It sounds quite harsh, but I get that. There's a reason why I can't trace back any of my Irish ancestors. There's a reason why the ones that came to America passed on tales of brutality.

Monarchy is what it is. I won't begrudge a people for whatever governance they want. My great-grandmother was a pro-monarchist, that dearly loved the Queen. This would have been a sad time for her. My current British relatives don't have much love for the monarchy, but shrug, because that's how things are and that's how they will seemingly always be. The Queen was seen to many sort of like a celebrity granny figurehead, that had a  presence everywhere... and I think in general we tend to have strong feelings about grandmothers. Her son is unlikely to fill that same void, and may make anti-monarchy sentiment even worse. It's not that he's seen as 'woke', it's that he gives off bad vibes, disingenuous maybe, or even phony dishonesty. My relatives do indeed feel sad, even though their ancestors would have fought to end the monarchy. Even the hubby felt sad. He didn't quite know why or how to express it, but he thought back to the day where as a boy he was chosen to meet her.

She was definitely a great lady and totally committed to public service and essentially being a rallying icon for the UK and the Commonwealth, but she was also definitely reliant on teh taxpayers to support her and her family.

I have heard rumblings that Australia and Jamaica are considering changing to a republic now that QEII has passed.  I am interested in how the US news outlets are covering this so wall-to-wall.  I suppose there will be talk of the US rejoining the British monarchy (JK).

From my perspective the USA fought a war to remove Canada from the monarchy. And no one in Canada forgets it though 2014’s  200 year celebration of victory was rather sedate.

I suspect Canada was relieved that it didn’t have to keep Detroit and gloating over that, 200 years later would have been too unseemly.
