Traveling outside the country as a green card holder

My husband came to America on the k3 spouse visa 3 years ago from Dominican Republic. My husband received his permanent green card a month after he arrived. We plan to travel outside the country back to the DR, since he’s been here. My husband don’t have an American passport, but he has the Dominican passport he arrived to America with. I’m not sure if his Dominican passport will allow him back into America.  What does my husband need to travel out the country and back into America besides his I.D. and green card.

There is a reason they have his a GC. Use that along with the DR passport to fly back to the US.

You probably mean he came with CR1/IR1 spouse visa.  It would have been next to impossible to enter with K3, apply for AOS, and get approved for GC a month after US entry.

Are you sure he came on k-3? And not CR1/IR1?

Yes, I thought CR-1 was the same name as k3. Like I said it’s been over 3 years so I don’t think about the visa process anymore since we are done. But I stay on visa journey for my best friend and any advice I can remember for others. I’m so nervous and I want my husband and I to travel without any legal worries. Thank you for your response, I appreciate it.

Thanks for clarifying he came on CR1 visa. But there is no need for you to be worried at all. All your husband needs to return to the US is his DR passport and his Green Card, as already stated above.

He does no need a passport to be allied back in America. The sole document he needs is his green card. Any CBP officer who requires his passport is. breaking the law.

The specific question she asked was what does her husband need to travel outside of the country and back in - referring to the DR.

 

In order to fly to the DR, he needs a passport. No airline will book him without this. In order to get on the flight back from the DR he probably needs a passport as well (again, for the airline, not for customs, though I'd recommend it there too for ease of travel).
