Got passport; how long to receive naturalization cert back?

I got my US passport a couple weeks ago (right before New Year's). I was wondering how long it takes for them to return the naturalization certificate? It's been hard to find an answer on this for some reason. Thanks in advance.

😱 Two weeks?

We submitted our passport app with the certificate yesterday

So our kiddo’s passport / BC was received same day when we applied for his.  Two weeks implies a problem.  I hope it isn’t lost.

Hmm well my passport came with a small brochure that said that my passport and application documents will be mailed separately. I found a few links saying it can range from 2 to 4 weeks to get other documents back but there aren't a lot of posts asking this question so I figured I'd ask. Also my mailing address is a box at a UPS store and I haven't gone to check. 😅

For us, took a little under 4 weeks to get the certificate back after receiving the passport. 2-4 weeks sounds about right.

Less than a month for me.

Some never get theirs back.

Short of a security clearance or petitioning an alien for immigration you likely won’t need it again

Hopefully you made a copy and also ordered a passport card.

This is a brain dead process.

It can take anything from 0 days (ie you receive it before you receive your passport) to 2 months, nobody can tell you exactly how long it will take in your case.

For me it took 2 business days from when I received my passport.

Two weeks is actually "nothing", some people wait for 2 months. We see this fairly frequently in Facebook groups among other places, it's definitely not unusual.

I received the passport on December 24 2021 (after 2 weeks from sending the application)

The passport has a typo and I suppose I need to send it back to them to correct with the cert.
I still haven’t gotten the cert yet.

So certainly it took more than 2 weeks. I’m hoping to get it asap so I can go to SSA office and DMV to update my last name change.

I do have a couple photocopies and a scanned digital copy but I didn't get the passport card. I'll be going to my mailbox to check today so I'll report back. Thanks for all the replies.

The reasons you want your passport card is:

1. To protect you from double loss: naturalization certificate and passport.  Without both, the only way to get proof of authorized presence / work is to file for a new passport and pay a $150 file search fee.  Given the current debacle with the federal records center (FRC) you don’t want to depend on that.

2. Eventually you will want to update your social security record to note that you are a citizen. Precovid you could walk into an SS office with your passport or naturalization certificate and walk out with the same.  Now you have to mail it in. I would rather mail a passport card than a passport. Safe to assume SSA will lose your passport, so that expectations are set and you aren’t disappointed.

And I will never ever mail my naturalization certificate again, and given your ordeal I doubt you will.

At $35 more your passport card  would have been cheap insurance.

Hmm, thanks for the info. I'll look into getting the passport card if my naturalization cert never comes back.
