Hi y’all , I just received my 2 years green card last week . My husband has become verbally and emotionally abusive and now accuses me of marrying him only for green card . This is absolutely not true . He threatens me of separation and I don’t know what to do . What can I do in case he separates/ divorces and I have to remove the conditions on my card in 2 years

Report him and seek therapy. Maybe you can go to couple therapy. But if nothing works out, there are options.

Make sure you keep yourself safe if the abuse escalates.  Document any of the abuse and if it rises to something more than verbal/emotional, call the authorities.

Sorry you are going through this, maybe see if marriage counseling is an option.

Good Luck!

Usually marriage counseling is not advisable if there’s abuse going on.

I am sorry you are going through this. If he is abusing you, get out and seek a safe place to start fresh. You have your 2 year green card and may file the Removal of conditions when the time comes either on the basis of divorce or abuse. Frankly, abuse is hard to prove and may drag out the process. Though, many succeed. USCIS approves divorce waiver cases all the time. I do not know if you can seek a divorce unilaterally in your state.

The most important thing is that you seek safety and gather all the evidence of bona fide marriage that you can since the date you got married until the present date. If that means saving bills, statements to pdfs and printing them later, then do that. But you will need to submit all of that evidence SINCE THE DATE OF YOUR MARRIAGE when you file to remove conditions. It does not hurt to save text messages.

Do not become another statistic of abuse. Abuse comes in many forms and can easily escalate and you could end up hurt. You do not want that. Get out. Do not worry about belongings just get out in one piece. Cal the police and get a restraining order if you need to.

Being abused in a relationship isn't something that would have a negative impact on your immigration with respect to Removal of Conditions in two years time. You can try a few things.

* Get into an individual therapy

* Keep a diary and document all the daily stuff with your husband in as much detail as possible. These types of notes can be entertained in many different places as documentary evidence such as in a court of law.

* collect any and all documentary evidence of your life together with your husband starting from your marriage to every passing day. this includes leases, phone bills, credit card bills, plane tickets, photos, concert tickets together, social media messages, car insurance bills, messages/greeting cards to in-laws and family sent under both of your name etc. make photocopies and scan everything into a usb drive

i wish you best of luck in this tough situation.

I don’t disagree if the abuse is physical, but the OP has stated it is verbal/emotional at this point.  I only suggest that as an option since we do not know the entire story.

Keep records and evidence of abuse.

You can file ROC for yourself without spouse via waiver. That's when records and evidence comes in handy.
