Today is my birthday. It is, also, the first day of a new month. I am making my wish this year for all of us who have been waiting (so long) for IL's to come through this month. I am thinking of us all right now and sending out all of my positive thoughts your way. This will be over soon. ❤️

Happy Birthday! What a lovely wish and hope it comes true….

I realized I didn't updated this topic  for the excel sheet @Hawk Riders

My interview was January 12 > refused due to missing medical from Dec 30th 2021.

Medical was sent on January 30, showed refused under AP during the whole time and  my tracking number and passport was sent on February 10th 2022.

Passport arrived February 12!.

On another topic...

Im waiting for my husband to come back from work in Alaska. I was wondering if I should take a walk to rainbow bridge since I live so close and activate my IR1 while I wait for him since SSN and GC are taking some time....?

During Covid I've been dropping off my husband at the booth half way through the bridge and being escorted back to the Canadian side by the Americans without any problems. I just wonder what should I bring besides my passport and my parka 😂 ?

Remember, when you activate that visa, you become a non-resident of Canada.  Your visa in your passport is good for a year and can be restamped if the GC takes longer (it shouldn't) and you are legally entitled to work with that activated visa.  I'd wait until you plan to actually leave Canada.

Erm can you explain? i don't think a canadian PR would give up their resident status just by activating their immigrant visa

The context of “resident” here is in terms of taxes and entitlement for social benefits and healthcare.

Permanent Resident status is not affected by a US immigrant visa.

ah yes, although that's not entirely accurate - taxes and entitlements for social benefits are also tied to the time spent outside the country and in the province you might be in. you can have US green card and still live a chunk of time in Canada to be eligible.

Yes, you are right. It is complicated. Even CRA won’t answer you straight out whether or not you are deemed a tax resident. It depends on various factors. But for the sake of shorthand, and in the most common case for those of us moving to live with spouses (where we don’t maintain another residence in Canada), this is what is generally advised on this forum…

Yes, however, when you are activating that PR visa for the US, the idea is that you are moving to the US, hence the proof of domicile or in the case of a sponsoring spouse who isn't in the US, proof of reestablishing domicile prior to the issuance of the visa. If a GC holder wishes to remain outside of the US for an extended stay, a reentry permit is required.  Without having a reentry permit for the US, extended stays outside of the US jeopardize eligibility for reentry and potentially impact future citizenship applications.

Additionally, eligibility for social benefits from the Canadian side assumes you are a resident of Canada. You can't be both, the exception being when the tax man (or woman) on each side of the border want their cut.

My financial adviser referred me to this link to know if I am a resident for tax purposes even my income comes from the US. From this Tax Folio I determined that I was a resident and have to file income tax.

Quick update! Today's our interview day. The appointment time was 8:30, but my wife was called inside at 8:20. There were about 3-4 other people there with an 8:30 appointment.

One thing I wanted to note is that they don't allow any backpacks, large briefcases, etc. inside. I hadn't heard this mentioned before (maybe it's been discussed but I missed it?) but for those people in line that came alone and had no one that could hold on to their belongings, they were instructed to leave their bag/briefcase/etc. FAR away (i.e. several blocks away) from the consulate.

It was mentioned several times and you missed reading if you didn't read all from page 1. I even mentioned when my wife had her interview on the 12th of Jan. I mentioned that an old man having his interview, probably IR5, who had his small size luggage who has been told to bring back his luggage to hotel or anywhere. Another lady who have back pack with her, same thing I advised her to bring her bag to hotel because she will not be allowed to bring it in and there's only a very small locker that is good only for mobile.

Hi folks -  can someone please help me with the below -

1. What is the latest DQ date that have got interview dates so far? Looking at the spreadsheet it appears the latest DQ date to get interview is Jan 04 with interview date of 14 Mar. My DQ date is 19 Jan and I do not have an IL yet, so I am kind of freaked out if I missed it in my inbox somehow????

2. Also confirming that the police certificates are valid for 2 years?

Thank you so much!!!!

1. It's possible they sent out the ILs up to the first half of Jan. If you didn't get it now, most likely you'll get the IL next month. If not, then I would think about emailing the consulate and NVC.

2. Yes, 2 years.

Thank you for answering. I have a few more questions if you don't mind.

1. Can one book medical appointment before receiving IL? Is it advisable?

2. I would most likely want to book my medical in Toronto, are they backed up? How soon are people getting medical appointment after getting IL? Do you have to wait long?
