You can fault Biden for an ungraceful  exit and misrepresentation on the ability to hold the Taliban out of Kabul, but would it really make a difference?

A CNN report said there are 88,000 potential evacuees.  I think it would make a difference to them.  As the death toll mounts, at what point does it change from "ungraceful" to another adjective that is not so forgiving?

I don't know anyone who thinks the U.S. should remain there, but use some logic when making the plan to leave!

One thing I hate about recent U.S. politicians and military leaders is that they communicate our every move to the enemy.  So the enemy can easily wait us out, as the Taliban did.  It is just stupid.  There should have been a quiet plan to start removing people months ago.  Of course every one would know, but keep it subtle as much as possible.  Now we have this:

Last year, people in this forum were calling for an exit. When Pompeo met with the Taliban last year, we knew the handwriting was on the wall.

Umm, there are a lot of ways this could have been done better.  Getting out of Afghanistan is probably the right move, but that does not negate the role this inept President and his Administration played in creating this Saigon moment.  I know there will always be Biden apologist out there (TDS and all), but his track record on foreign policy decisions has not been very good, and now he has made the US look even worse on the world stage than anything Orange Man Bad did.

I can think of no one who would say we need to stay.  Heck, we should have left over a decade ago.  But are you willing to speak out against your Dear Leader and call this debacle of an exit what it really is?  Or will you continue to defend him?

I am not defending him, I offered criticism, but criticism that was specific to planning and logistics on the exit.

And that is what deserves the criticism.  Can you name a worse "exit" plan executed by the US?

Fall of Saigon , Mogadishu, Beruit 1984 come to mind. I honestly have not studied military history so I am sure I am missing some.

In the whole scheme of things, the outcome in Kabul was decided years ago, Like or dislike the outcome.

My main beef against Biden us promising that the government would stand up against the Taliban.  I think our leaders should just level with us on the reality of military situations. It gets complicated though when the enemy can  read the newspaper to determine their strategy.

And there's no need to bring all, most, many, or even more than some Afghan refugees to the U.S. -- contact Saudi Arabia, the Gulf States, and others.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Yeah, I don't remember people falling from an airplane in the one's you mentioned.  I heard they found human remains in the wheel well of a C17.  Yep, I think Old Joe topped all of those, but not to worry, he is on vacation.

I wonder if he invited Bergdahl to his birthday party?

When President Barack Obama released five Taliban commanders from the Guantanamo Bay prison in exchange for an American deserter in 2014, he assured a wary public that the dangerous enemy combatants would be transferred to Qatar and kept from causing any trouble in Afghanistan.

In fact, they were left free to engineer Sunday’s sacking of Kabul.
