It's going to be very simple with the Pfizer subscribe-n-save option:

I guess you missed the bulletin, but Afghanistan just got an airport and some planes the other day.  Pretty sure it takes a lot less gas to get to Iran than Mexico or Canada.

The question was why should they go to a predominately Muslim country.

I can think of no one who would say we need to stay.

Well now you know of one.

Leaving with the Taliban in charge just means AQ, ISIS, etc will have safe haven to launch  another major terrorist attack on the USA.

Given a choice between spending another $2T to re-invade, re-conquer, and re-attempt-to-nation-build Afghanistan or spending say $20B a year to pay for US air support, contractors to keep the Afghan Air Force flying, and salaries of the Afghan armed forces, I prefer the latter.

Send Rio Tinto to exploit the minerals and take a cut of their gross profits to cover the $20B

By leaving the Taliban in charge, even in the unlikely event Afghanistan doesn’t attack the USA again, the refugee flow will be a major fish coal drain on the USA and it’s allies.  So much so that NATO allies will tell the USA they have to defund NATO commitments to pay for the refugee deluge caused ultimately by NATO intervention in Afghanistan.

Penny wise / pound foolish.

Ease of transition.

Because Muslims would rather be with Muslims? That is presumptuous, how would a Shia transition into a predominantly Sunni culture? What if they are not religious at all? What if they are a progressive woman and chose not to live in a nonprogressive culture? What if they are gay?

What if they are simply executed due to Old Joe bungling this operation?

Not sure what that has to do with where they can seek refugee status.

Pay attention.  The reference was to where they can apply for asylum before coming here or to another country.

Finally done.

Perhaps it's not really for us here to tell people whether or where to seek asylum.  But if they indeed DO desire to seek it, there are many, MANY countries to go thru before they hit the US.  And I think we already have about a million more than we know what to do with just since January.  Let's not borrow more trouble.

Well, the good news is, you might get out of Afghanistan on US airlift.

The bad news?  You have to pay about $2,000 to do so.

State Dept's Overseas Security Advisory Council said Aug. 14: "Repatriation flights are not free, & passengers will be required to sign a promissory loan agreement & may not be eligible to renew their U.S. passports til the loan is repaid. Cost may be $2,000 or more per person."

Chill, you came in late to the thread. The question is why Qatar and other Muslim countries should take Afghan refugees and not the west.
