Biden’s Economy Gets More Bad News: Number Of Jobs Added In March Gets Drastically Cut

Democrat President Joe Biden’s economy got even worse news on Friday following April’s disastrous jobs report as the number of new jobs that were added

in March has been significantly revised down.

 

The news followed the stunning report that only 266,000 jobs were added in April, more than 700,000 jobs short of what some projections had forecast.

 

The black unemployment rate increased, 18,000 manufacturing jobs were lost, no construction jobs were added, unemployment for Americans without any college

education increased, and women had a net loss in jobs. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics said that nearly 10 million Americans, 9.8 million to be exact, remained

unemployed in Biden’s economy.

 

Biden faced criticism online over the jobs report. Donald Trump Jr. mocked Biden, saying that he was not “the next FDR,” but was “the next Jimmy Carter.”

Battered Biden under siege as crises confound the White House

 

A lot has changed in a matter of days.

Friday was supposed to be a glorious day for Biden. The latest employment numbers were set to be released, and economists were gushing that a million new jobs had likely been created in April by exuberant employers and their newly vaccinated workers. 

His team no doubt was prepared to unleash Biden to perform a little victory dance at the White House celebrating the stupendous number. But the show had to be hastily revamped when the actual tally came in nearly three-quarters-of-a-million jobs lower than expected; just 266,000 jobs created and unemployment unexpectedly rising to 6.1%.

"You might think we should be disappointed," Biden said, which was indeed something people might think. But the American Rescue Plan he signed into law in March "was designed to help us over the course of a year — not 60 days," he said.

Far from being a disappointment, a jobs report that included 734,000 jobs fewer than expected was good news.

LONG BEACH, Calif. (KABC) -- Grocery company Kroger announced on Monday it will be shuttering two of its stores in Long Beach -- a Ralphs location and a Food 4 Less store -- in response to a city ordinance requiring a $4 "hero pay" salary boost for some workers.

Mayor Robert Garcia was a major proponent of the ordinance. Before signing the measure, he wrote on Twitter that grocery workers "have been on the front lines of this pandemic and deserve this support.'' He added grocers have made record profits amid the pandemic.
The Long Beach City Council last month gave initial approval to a law requiring large grocers to pay its workers an extra $4 an hour in "hero pay" for their work during the COVID-19 pandemic. The law applies to companies with 300 or more workers overall and more than 15 employees per location in Long Beach.

Lee also mentioned that The California Grocers Association recently filed a lawsuit to have the ordinance declared unconstitutional.
