Yikes. A friend of ours has just announced his engagement. His wife died April first this year.  He drives long haul trucks, and now and then he stops by the local truck stop for lunch.

In July, so three months after his wife died, he told me he had a girlfriend. Showed me a picture of her, taken at his wife's funeral, and in it the new girlfriend and he are holding hands. At the funeral. They all went to high school together. Dug the engagement ring he had bought out of his pocket to get my opinion.  I figured he knew what he was about, congratulated him and wished them well.

Last night on FB, he announced his engagement. To an entirely different woman. This one is from the Philippines, and has a 12 hear old daughter. He has known her three weeks,  only one week before he proposed. Both the fiancee and the daughter are wearing engagement rings.

She arrived here on a K1, has a two year green card, filed VAWA as yet undecided, and is just recently divorced.

She is 32 years younger than he is, and really quite beautiful. Mike is, well, let's just say he won't be winning any GQ awards for sartorial splendor. He is short, chubby, bordering on obese.

Now it is just me, or has my friend totally lost his ever loving mind?

Oh what a hot mess.

Sit back and watch the show.

Filipina here. Apart from all the red flags in your friend's situation, the 12 year old daughter also wearing an engagement ring just sounds so skeevy. That's not normal in the Philippines and just looks and sounds so wrong. Yuck.

I didn't think this sounded normal anywhere!

Grieving people do crazy things. @cdneh, if you're close to this guy, be ready to catch him when he falls. He will. This is so sad. :(

Meanwhile, here I am in a house built approximately 1960 and it's considered "old" here. No secret passageways!

But hey, the townhouse almost as old as I am (that we moved into at the end of June) and older than PRG has actual overhead lighting in almost every room, which is great :D .

Seriously. Like anything less than 30 years old is set up to expect you to use lamps everywhere but bathrooms and the kitchen. Who thought this was a good idea? Certainly not me.

And while containing mini-Dave's stuff to his room hasn't been completely successful, it's much better than having his things spread out over our room, my office/guest bedroom, and the living room ala our old place.

It isn't for lack of people trying. He had a screaming swearing facebook post last night and deleted and blocked a heap of people. I so far, am not one of them. He's just lost his mind. My god, this will  not end well.

I can explain it to you. But I can't understand it for you.

Released miu from carrier, escape miu man.
