I am so behind anything. Missed birthdays of Ontarkie's kids, missed 4th of July with the wishes to you all, missed T-Bone's birthday... This year is not a good one when it comes to my brain lol 🤦‍♀️

What else? Decided to not think about the war happening just across our border (some people don't have such luxury) and visited with my sister and her boys some cool places in our home country (the Malbork Castle was one of them), been to two amazing shows for the first time since this pandemic started (Guns'n'Roses & FFDP), took a cruise to Denmark (sooo fun), got covid (not sooo fun) and tomorrow I have another part of my vacation start. I'm leaving to Pol'And'Rock Festival, so it seems it will be a good excercise to overcome my post-covid weakness :P

Have a good August you all :)

Look at how much they have grown. ❤️

Glad you had a good time, sorry to hear about catching covid. Have fun at the festival, it sounds like the perfect way to bounce back from covid.

Report in from halfway through the British Invasion: I am alive! My mother and mother-in-law are off to Vegas tomorrow morning for some light (heavy) indulgences, including spa treatments, some gambling, and some show which they were both snickering about so it's probably something like Chippendales or whatever the latest "sexy" iteration of Cirque de Soleil is out there.

My stepdaughter is growing up so fast -- she is most certainly a tween now. She also has far better fashion sense than I had at her age, which is depressing. She also seems to know everything about everything, which I also claimed at that age, but I suspect she might actually. She's scarily brilliant, just like her dad. I've been getting along well with her mum, too, after I got over some of my insecurity being around her. She's just so nice about everything, and to everyone, nearly all the time, and she's just an all-around lovely person (most of the time). But Alex says he is very aware of why they never got back together, and I should stop making problems where there aren't any. My sister-in-law floats in and out as she feels like it -- her sort-of boyfriend (always unclear) lives in Beverly Hills, and so she stays with him until she's tired of it. He and I are acquainted and the less said the better but I'd get sick of him too. I am enjoying seeing everyone, but also enjoying the nights I let him be where they're staying and I am blissfully alone. :D

On my own family front, my mother's family is exploding with a massive secret uncovered. My mother is one of 7, 8 originally but one passed. 4 of them have had their DNA tested -- 2 of the oldest and 2 of the youngest 3. Well, my mom and her closest in age sister are definitely full siblings, and turn out to be significantly more English and Scottish than they expected. And the 2 younger? Errrrrr.... where did all this Mediterranean DNA come from?

Well, the entire family is up in arms, with one brother refusing to accept any of it and refusing to test, even though he is in between the two sisters who don't share the same father with my mom and her closest-in-age sister. He resigned from the family FB group today in protest! Apparently my grandmother was informed of the results of the two younger sisters a while ago, but she told them they were wrong, she definitely had never had sex with anyone but my grandfather, etc. Now they are trying to figure out whether to push the matter further with my grandmother who is in her early 90s. I think she may have hoped she could have taken this to the grave but now the can of worms is fully open. The hypothesis is that the bio-dad of the younger sisters was my grandfather's best friend.

My husband thinks this last bit is most hysterical, because before he and I got together he was best friends with my ex. Today he said it had just occurred to him that it must run in the family. I did not appreciate this. <_<

Those DNA test are notorious for being wrong.  I have seen more then one set of twins get two very different results back.

Glad the visit is going good. It's nice to have them staying somewhere else, it gives you time to recharge.

Reporting myself back from the trip to Argentina. We came back about two weeks ago and had an amazing time there.
We landed into Buenos Aires, then we transferred airports to go to Iguazu falls. We made it to the hotel very very late at night, so we just showered and went to bed. The next morning we started our excursions, we went to the Wanda mines and hubby had a first taste of true steak at all-you-can eat. As soon as he took the first bite, he fell in love with the food and said “I can’t believe the ####### we eat in ‘Merica!”. Then on the second day we visited the falls on the Argentinian side, where we saw the Devils Throat (amazing) and we took a boat ride under the falls. Then at night we went to a restaurant and had the best steak I’ve ever had in my life.
Next day we went to the Brazilian side of the falls. In Iguaçu we visited Itaipu (the largest dam in the world) and then we saw the Devils throat from their bridges. At night we went to a restaurant where we ate steak (again!) and we also enjoyed a show with traditional South American dances.
The day after, we flew to my home State, Cordoba.
Worst flight experience ever. All passengers spoke Spanish, except Zach. This is relevant for later. About 30 minutes prior to landing I saw that the flight attendants were pacing back and forth, and not with a happy face. All passengers started looking at each other because we could tell something was going on. I just sort of brushed it off and tried to watch my movie. Then the captain started an announcement (in Spanish)

“Ladies and gentlemen, we have a situation in the cabin. The brake light is coming off in our panel, which might indicate that the brake is stuck. It’s most likely a false alarm, but out of precaution we’re going to do an emergency landing”. Kids started crying, people praying… and my husband asked me to translate for him. He has a avionics degree, so when the flight attendant explained it to him, he started calming me down, saying that it is a false alarm and that when he was in Iraq they used to get helicopters with false alarms like that all the time. I was panicking, crying, hyperventilating…. He was just guiding me to breathe in and out. Then about 10 minutes before landing the flight attendants started yelling “posición de emergencia!!! Posición de emergencia!!!” (They had instructed us to put ourselves into fetal position and use a jacket as a pillow to avoid hitting our heads with the seats). The plane went pitch black, longest minute of my life. Of course, everything was ok, just false alarm and a poorly managed situation by the crew. No need to freak us out. No less than five Argentinian passengers reached out to thank my husband because they overheard him explaining the situation to me, and helping me calm down. Right there I fell in love all over again with him!

The next days were filled with love from family and friends, and good food! We even did a wedding celebration with our Argentinian family (dad hired some traditional dancers), taught my nephews to fish… so so much fun!

Beside the crazy plane experience. The trip sounds great. Mmmm steak 😋

Those DNA test are notorious for being wrong.  I have seen more then one set of twins get two very different results back.

Glad the visit is going good. It's nice to have them staying somewhere else, it gives you time to recharge.

Oh yes. Argentinian steak is well- known worldwide, and for a reason. In general, Argentinian cuisine is very unique, with a blend of European and Native traditions. We also had bagna cauda (italian recipe) with the family. For our wedding, we had a menu of traditional Argentinian food. We are saving to go back next year. Husband fell so in love with Argentina that it seems we're bringing a puppy! (the Argentinian breed is dogo, they are working dogs)

The first nice dinner out Anastasia & I had together was at an Argentinian steakhouse ... in Hong Kong 🤣

Was really good, though she ordered some pasta with seafood instead of steak.

Argentinian steak 🤤🤤🤤.  Basically, any meat done in Argentinian tradition.  The empanadas, too...

We hit western Canada in June.  Very lucky we did.  My grandfather (89) ended up in hospital 3 days after we left and passed away about 2 weeks later.  I have lovely memories of our last visit, though.  He had a bit of a sweet tooth (literally had candy stashes all over the house) so hubs and I stopped at a French style bakery when we were home and picked up an assortment of rhubarb crème filled choux pastries, delicious cookies, macarons and honey comb.  He literally went through them all, providing a critique as he went along.  The honey comb was declared to be too hard and the choux pastries were delish.  I'm extremely thankful for that visit.  My brother and I spent a LOT of time with him and my grandmother while growing up as my mom was a single parent.  They were reasonably young grandparents, too, him being 46 when I was born.  So, he was an integral role model for us.

Anyway, left the kids with their father, came back to Houston, caught a cold (not covid - we tested me).  As TBone can attest, it's just been too hot for anything productive outdoors.  We didn't get anything we planned to do finished while the kids were gone.

Headed to Seattle a couple of weeks later to grab a rental car and drive across WA & ID and up to Canada to meet my ex and get the kids back.  Headed to the Okanagan to see my dad, stepmom and grandma who recently turned 99.  Poor grandma's short term memory sucks and she's frustrated by it.  Anything from about 20 years ago is clear as mud, but remembering yesterday's events...no chance.  It was a lovely visit, regardless.  She told us she's planning to write a memoir so we can learn about her life.  I legitimately hope she's successful because she's a pretty neat lady with many interesting experiences under her belt.

Headed back to Seattle, stopping at the NEXUS office in Blaine to get our stuff successfully updated since the covid excuse is still going long and strong in Canada and we couldn't do it there.  Kinda had a cough and figured I was getting the short end of the stick having just had a cold when we travelled the last time.  Got worse and Kid1 got it too.  We were feeling pretty rough when we left, so we figured the timing was good to GTFO of there.  Got home and my stepmom texts asking how we were feeling.  Told her we figured we had colds, why?  She and my dad tested positive for covid.  Great.  Test Kid1 and I and sure enough, covid.  Managed to avoid it for 2.5 years despite the countless emails from the schools telling us "your child has been in contact with someone who tested positive for covid-19" and all the other exposures, but go home after 3 years and that's what I was gifted.  At least we picked up some really great bottles of vino while we were home!
