''Filing jointly''

Hi folks, Trilobyte's wife here. Just putting my I-751 packet together.

What does ''if you are filing jointly'' mean? I'm still married to the same American bloke, so do I select this?

Sorry if the answer is obvious - kinda tired and stressed over here.

Thanks. :)

Yes you are filing jointly and not needing a "divorce waiver".   At least for today ;)  Relax you are good.

OK, thank you.

So under Part 3, Basis for Petition - I just check box 1.a - My spouse. Correct?

-----------------------------

Also, in Part 1 - information about you, the Conditional Resident. It says Mailing Address 15.a In Care Of Name. What the heck is ''in care of name''? Do they mean my husband, or just my own name? Make it sounds like they're asking about some kind of carer or psychiatrist! If it just means 'name', why not just say 'your name'.

Thank goodness for this forum.

you do realize its a generic form for all types of people. if it does not apply ,you can leave it blank. highly doubt they are interested in your psychiatrist

^ I was joking - I didn't literally mean a psych; it was a comment on the silly phrasing on the form, and yes I know it's a generic form for all kinds of people!

So what is the correct thing to input - my name or my husband's name?

Do you normally have mail addressed to you with an "In Care Of" name?

If not (most people don't), then it does not apply.

^ Nope - never seen that phrase anywhere before, hence why I don't know what it means.

So I leave it blank or write my name?

Thanks for replying, btw. 🙂

N/A is fine.

Leaving it blank is likely fine as well, although i personally avoid blank fields in general.

Thank you. I don't like leaving blank fields either. But then I'm also paranoid that putting N/A will be something they don't like either.

I'll just leave it blank unless others weigh in to say something different.

Thanks again.

In care of is common in my country. Just mostly for those who use other people's address to receive mail. So if I was using Annie,  my sister, it'll be like.

To

Timona

In C/O Annie

P. O BOX blaa blaa blaa

So in writing C/O, everyone knows it's Annie's box, but the mail belongs to me.

I haven't used things like this since I set foot in US that they are now fading from memory.  I had to Google spelling of "Trousers" the other day. Or maybe I'm growing old, though this shouldn't be the case as I'm barely 30.

Edited by Timona

Immigration journey is not: fast, for the faint at heart, easy, cheap, for the impatient nor right away. If more than 50% of this applies to you, best get off the bus.

Leave the in c/o blank; does not apply to you.

For your knowledge; reasons it may be used;

I recently mailed my godchild a package (4 years old) and I labeled his name first and then I put c/o mothers name.

If you were mailing a package to say a large business you may address it to "Business Name" "c/o Jane Smith"

However many years I live in the U.S., I'll never get used to the word 'pants' to mean trousers. I mean, I'm used to it in that I know what it means but I'll never use the word myself. Pants are underwear! Or something that is rubbish and tedious, like ''I hate dealing with USCIS, their forms are such pants''.

So when you avoid blank fields, do you put n/a in every single blank space?  For example of the part about children, there are spaces for 5 children with numerous questions. Will you put n/a in all those spaces?  Thanks, @geowrian
