AOS interview before getting EAD - proof of marriage?

When we first got married my husband could not be added to the lease but they did add him as an "occupant" of the apartment.    they gave us a print out from their billing system that showed him as an occupant since and the date we had notified him he was living in the apartment.

This is a good idea.  I would think this should be possible with most rental leases, since in many jurisdictions, landlords can require that all occupants be listed, even if they are not officially on the lease.

Our AOS interview was incredibly smooth because we were joint on everything, our interviewing officer even noted that showing our car registrations in both our names was something he hadn't seen often.

I hate to be rude, but having your EAD has nothing to do with getting on bills etc, it's simply a case of calling the utility (or whatever company) and asking for your name to be added to future bills.

What you have is probably sufficient, but I would definitely get yourself added to whatever you can ASAP.

I would say that what you have is slim but enough, you are still at the beginning of the marriage so you don't have as much as people that have been married for a while. However you also have this ROC thing coming 2 years down the line and it would be nice to have more than what you have now. You most likely will get some questions about why certain things are not there. If you have a logical answer it is ok.

Since you both have kids, stuff that shows you interacting with them is great as well. Permission slips, report cards signed by the stepparent. Being added as an emergency contact on any form for them (doctor, dentist, school etc). Get your taxes done, most times you will be asked for tax returns.

Would you say it's better to get my own bank account or be added to his? Both? We will be keeping our own accounts for the most part, but it may be better to show joint?

Are you married or not, is the question.

Car registrations should not be in both names, in case of a car accident, you can both be sued.

That’s the worst advice I’ve ever seen, when you jointly own an asset, it’s registered as such.

Thats also what good car insurance is for...
