Technically speaking, an RFE is a written request for more information and documentation that USCIS mails out if they believe that they don’t yet have enough evidence to approve or deny a given application. An RFE normally is a minor item and should not be looked at like it's a denial but an opportunity for you to complete your application. USCIS would not send out an RFE if they were going to deny your application. It's just a step that they must take and once they have your information and it meets their approval then you should be seeing your NOA2.

There are many varying degrees of RFE's. Some as simple as not "ticking" off a question. Others forgot the fiancé(e) letter and then others who met on a website and now need to prove that it wasn't a marriage arrangement website.

Once you get your RFE, read over very carefully as you only have one chance to reply accurately without causing undue harm. Once you know FROM THE RFE what it is set out to correct and to include "everything" they are asking for. Then reread the RFE to ensure you are compliant. Make copies of everything for your record and send back using their instructions which are contained within the RFE. If the RFE requires a signature, PLEASE don't forget this. Include the original RFE letter along with a cover letter explaining what you are including in your reply. Like a checklist format. Once received at USCIS your case will begin adjudication where the agent had left off. No one can tell you how long it will take so be patient.

REF's are normally received like any other mail piece, within a week. "your mileage may vary"

Thanks for your reply.

Can we send the required documents from abroad (outside US)?

Good luck! Let us know whe. You get it what happened. I did intent to marry on one page and we both signed it when I visited her just prior to submitting. I did not get an rfe. Hoping for the best for you!

Oh no, In this case it might be another request :( I hope the task is easy. I can't understand why should we wait for the mail not e-mail? Mails are really time consuming.

Yes, you can send from abroad. They like to have the original copy of the RFE returned with your reply, but I have heard anyone opine that either way didn't work (with original or with a copy). Be sure to send it such a way that you can track your reply.

The government trust the mail more than email. It's just something we must deal with.

Sending good vibes out to everyone waiting for their NOA2 from February. I know this is a really difficult time for everyone but hopefully some more of us hear something this week! Just think ahead to when this is all over and you and your fiancé can look back at how you got each other through a really difficult time. Love to all.

I woke up to a notification saying, "You have an updated on your case status from USCIS" this morning. If it had been possible to have fallen out of my bed in shock I would have done that! I had given up on getting any kind of an update at this point and here we are at day 199.

I tapped through to find out what it could be to see the following, "Request for Additional Evidence Was Sent"

We have no idea what it could be that they are missing to make a decision. So now begins the wait for the letter to tell us what it is they need to proceed.

At 194 days and still nothing. At this point I'm looking forward to opening up an inquiry in a few weeks since the 7 months will be up soon

We thought we would be doing the same. Our receipt date is the 3rd of February. I hope you hear soon and that you don't have to call.

I've just got a notification from Lawfully that USCIS sent RFE yesterday. I'm not sad because I know that we made a mistake and sent only one intention to marry with two signatures on it. ( I hope they only need that 😀)
I'm worried how long will it take to receive the mail. Because my fiance will come here next week and I'm not sure if we are allowed to response to RFE while he is away from US.

Oh my goodness! I'm glad you heard back! How long did it take to get the letter from the USCIS? I've been following the news about the USPS so now we are wondering how long it will take the letter to arrive in New York from California. My fiancé said it normally takes 3 days so we will see.

Well, there is no letter yet 😩   it's been 8 days until I've got the notification. They sent it on 12th. My fiance is in Miami but maybe for New York is shorter than us ( I doubt 😄)

At first I was happy that there was a movement in my case but to be honest, now I'm frustrated because my fiance will travel to Turkey to visit me and we have to ask one of our friends to check the mailbox. I even called USCIS to ask them to send me a copy by fax but they put me on holds for several minutes and finally I gave up.

I wish K1 was like IR1 electronic based.

I hope both of us get an easy task to fulfill 😊

Don't give up on getting a faxed copy. You need a tier 2 agent to access that and there are good people at USCIS that will help you with this. If at first, you don't succeed then try again. Instructions are in the PDF.

Do you have the ability to get the "informed mail" option from USPS? Instructions are contained within the PDF.
