If you're adamant about using this guy---when the lawyer does get around to sending the package to USCIS, insist he give you the tracking number.

There was a case on here not too long ago where the lawyer delayed sending the package, and then later refused to give the applicant the tracking number when requested, saying it wasn't necessary for them to have it---that person found out 2 months later that the lawyer had never sent it as promised, and it was still sitting on his desk.

Too many people use attorneys thinking everything is then out of their hands and all responsibility falls on the lawyer to handle everything and that the lawyer will keep on top of everything for them.  Quite the opposite---no one is going to be more vested in your case than you.  The lawyer is vested in his fee.

He isn't charging us anything extra for the letter (if it's even necessary--we could very well have our NOA by then), and confirmed he is indeed filing it ASAP. We have over 3 weeks until the trip so I'm not worried about USCIS receiving the file in that timeframe. The OP in the attached topic had not actually filed AOS yet (was awaiting some tax documents), which is a different circumstance altogether. I was just concerned about not yet having the NOA while AOS was already filed.

Are you certain?  Billable hours are very important to lawyers.

I still do not understand why anyone would hire an attorney, to do simple filling out forms with information you provided. I guess smartphones, internet, and computers are for other things. Keep listening to your attorney, and you could say to your wife, see you back in your country, honey.

He will be charging you for the time it takes to write your bill.

I got checked by CBP in Minneapolis/St Paul back in May, so they don't just hang out at major airports, either.

MSP isn't exactly a minor airport; it's among the top 20 busiest in the US (exact ranking depends on the measure you're looking at) and a pretty important hub for Delta.

Not minor, but it's not one of the "big names" or a major port of entry that you'd expect.  LAX, JFK, O'Hare and Houston I'd expect, but I (clearly) wouldn't expect it at MSP
