Alcohol causes more deaths than guns. Ban alcohol.

This is generally facetious though. Most people saying this don’t actually want to ban alcohol.

Since I haven’t drank for almost 3 years now, I have nothing to lose and probably a lot to gain if alcohol was no longer sold and I still don’t think its a good idea. The concept of banning alcohol has been tried and solves nothing. It didn’t deter criminal activity, just turned more people into criminals. A similar prohibition on guns would have similar results.

None of that is to say that addressing the illegal and/or irresponsible behavior that can happen with these activities more seriously when it occurs isn’t something that should be looked at.

I don't see it as facetious.   More ironic, to me.  But you're a reasonable guy, and know that taking guns away won't solve the current problem.  Not everyone agrees with us, and the uninformed think a "government buyback" is a good thing.

Well they tried that, it just facilitated a huge black market and many criminal enterprises, but I am sure guns would be different

It's both. I mean it can be. I would assume if you drink alcohol, you don't actually want to ban alcohol even though you might post about it? I think there are better arguments to be made on the gun issue.

We often follow this line of thought and end up with something like ban doctors/hospitals because medical errors kill more people than firearms and alcohol abuse combined. If you are just going by absolute numbers, you are setting up a circular argument. It becomes pointless.

I can agree with you on that.  But the point of Spooky's (dare I say ridiculous) "solution" isn't designed to start a "ban alcohol" movement; rather it is used to illustrate how ridiculous a "ban guns" movement is.

And before anyone chimes in with, "we don't want to take your guns", let's  see what just one presidential candidate has to say:

Just remember the logic works either way. That's assuming that politicians use logic to arrive at decisions in the first place. They actually did try banning alcohol once.

They want all of our guns. And they are very patient. They start by taking a little at a time, like they have been doing for many decades. The end goal is no private firearm ownership. Except for criminals.
