Hello, 😊

I will be soon applying for citizenship, I began gathering and filing all documents required for N-400 as well as interview. I am applying with the minimun 5yrs green card. This requires submission of 5yrs past tax return transcript during the interview process and I am not sure if i have to send this along with N-400 too. However, my main issue is that I went online to get my transcript and also called IRS and they are only able to issue 2015, 2016, 2017 & 2018 basically not '2014' and I'm clueless how to get the 2014 tax return transcript. Can someone please advise? i've really tried researching online and not finding a solution.

also to clarify I do have my tax return documents but not the 2014 tax return transcript as required for the interview and application. after doing much research it sounds like they want to see the transcript over docs. please advise. Thanks!

You have to apply by mail to IRS using Form 4506 (request for copy of tax return) and you have to send along a check for $50. Be sure to check which IRS office you need to send in depending on the address you stayed (details are in the form). There is no online option to request this, I had to do the same for my 2014 tax return. You can find the form at the following link:

                                                          https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f4506.pdf

Hope this helps.

Good luck on your naturalization journey.

@spr2019 Thanks for your advice. I do have a copy of my Tax returns from my CPA but I've read many posts that a Tax transcript is better to have.

I've sent a form 4560-T ( https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f4506t.pdf )requesting one for 2014.

Would you know if this is to be attached with the N-400 form or just taken to the interview?

Thanks!

I only attached tax transcript no returns when I submitted my application online, you can print/download if you don't have tax transcript, the one online doesn't have an address and complete name but your last 4 digit SSN is visible so it's fine.

You can also bring the tax transcript with you on the day of your interview specially the most recent one.

Do you need to submit 5 years of tax returns?

Are these submitted online with the N400 or just taken to interview?

Thanks

I've applied based on the 5 year rule and there was no mention of tax transcripts for me. My interview is in a couple of days and I have no intention of taking any tax information, just my greencard, passport and the interview letter, nothing else has been requested.

I believe tax transcripts are required only for the marriage-based "3 year rule" N400 applicants.

That said, USCIS may want to see proof of taxes paid (no tax delinquencies), and that's why many bring their tax returns/transcripts to the interview regardless of the rule under which N400 is applied for. It may be worth getting any transcripts that can be acquired relatively easily (i.e. by applying and/or printing online).

Not true, one of my co-worker applied under 5 year rule and the IO ask about her 2017 tax filing, she filed January 2016, obviously before the 2017 tax filing started so she submitted until 2016 tax filing when she submitted her application.

Again, the IO may or may not ask about tax filing, but I would suggest to bring the updated one just in case the IO will ask specially to prevent the delay and RFE. Beside, April 15 has been passed already so tax filing should be done.

LTTN - when filing your N400 - did you also upload the 5 years of tax transcripts online? The reason I ask is because I am missing my 5th year's return transcript online, the online IVR option also says 2016 is invalid year, although the account transcript exists and it shows the refund :) I am confused, if I should wait for next year's return to make it 5 years?
