I wonder who the DNC has decided will be the next nominee.

"Beaten" O'Rourke?

If he announces, he'd immediately be the biggest lightweight of all of them, which is saying a LOT.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Indeed. It seems bizarre that he even dares to run given all of that recent history. Not to be cynical but maybe he's trying to cash in on his popularity. He knows he isn't going to be nominated so what is the point? Maybe he's doing it just to spite the other Democrats, who knows. Politics maketh little sense these days.

Some folks liked getting knocked down over and over again.

I think it is amusing that the only argument against Sanders is: "he's too old". I guess Trump can't get a 2nd term because he's too old. Sanders currently looks to be in much better shape than Trump.

Sanders got $4 million donations within 24 hours (unconfirmed sources says 5), he's got a big following. And compared to the other candidates he actually entered with a clear platform from the get-go.

Did anyone actually use the ageism argument?  Personally I will not vote for Bernie Sanders because he espouses communism which I believe was also brought up in this thread.

Did you read the first page?

From what I can see from his platform he is not working towards making the US a communist country. He just wants us on par with other countries.

I have read the platform of the Democratic Socialists of America and reading it closely, they are espousing communism. Would he succeed in doing that if elected, probably not, but he could do a lot of unsustainable damage.

What parts of the platform? I don't think Bernie is an official member of the DSA. All I hear from him is he wants us to be on par with the rest of the world.

On par with the rest of the world how exactly? Do you mean on par with small(population wise) Scandinavian countries that have next to no defense?

Do you mean growing defense? Not that it is relevant to having a good social welfare system.

No, I meant more in line with other industrialized countries. It would be nice if the US wasn't the country with the worst maternity death rate of an industrialized country. It would be nice if the US wasn't the only developed country without mandated paid family leave. It would be nice if the US could guarantee AFFORDABLE healthcare to all its citizens. It would be nice if the US could make sure that everyone who wants to can get an education regardless of how much money they have.

Hm, why would you want to live in the US versus Sweden where they do have such a welfare system? I'm not saying this to jab at you at all, I'm genuinely curious and I'm actually a big fan of Europe myself. My husband and I came here because of certain situations in Russia being extremely lacking in opportunity for him due to corruption and inept bureaucracy, if things were different there, we would have stayed in Russia for sure. I just wonder why people from Europe move to the US, especially if they are pro things like paid maternity leave, universal healthcare and etc.

No, I mean if you take a look at the Nordic countries then you would see that they have a big social network because they don't spend money defense like what the USA. I really hate how the USA has a high maternity death rate compared to other industrialized countries I really do. But what people fail to realize is that we are ALOT bigger than the other industrialized countries, so everything is more spread out. A lot of states are moving towards paid family leave as it should be the case but then people complain it either being not long enough or not hiring someone because they are pregnant.

Overpaid military???  Laughable.  Join up today and try to get rich, I challenge you.  Get back to me in a year with your results.

Long story short: came here as an Au Pair who just wanted to be here traveling and experiencing the culture before going back and start my life in Sweden after studying basically. Met my husband. I'd love to move back and my husband is open to it at least for a few years. But I want to become a citizen first so, in case we do decide to come back, I can do so without starting over.

I am not saying all of the above (about healthcare etc.) to imply the US sucks. I love this country. I just feel like the US can do so much better by providing for their people. It will benefit them greatly. And for anyone who says "well it will just create more people on welfare because they will see no reason to work and the DSA even brought it up on their website and said: "We don’t agree with the capitalist assumption that starvation or greed are the only reasons people work. People enjoy their work if it is meaningful and enhances their lives. They work out of a sense of responsibility to their community and society." and also " For now, the burden should be placed on the employer to make work desirable by raising wages, offering benefits and improving the work environment."  And I agree. I loved my job in Sweden and I loved feeling like I was contributing to society. Right now I have a ####### job. I technically make good money, I make about $16 dollars as a teacher's assistant at a private school which is waaaay over the average for my profession. But I hate it and I don't feel like I am contributing to anything other than lining the pockets of the ower of the school. I don't get paid on snow days, I miss out on work on parent/teacher conferences and I (obviously) don't get paid during the summer. Where I want to work they get paid way less than $15 bucks so that is not currently desirable either. I want a job that I love, that I feel motivated to go to and give it my all. Not a job where I wake up and think "this sucks". I am working 1 day this week. Monday was President's Day, I worked yesterday and today is a snow day. Thursday and Friday is parent-teacher conference day. So here I am considering if I should just quit my job and be a nanny and get $20-$25 bucks an hour instead. Because in this country nannies are more important than teachers. Sorry for my rant and sorry for the tiny text, it got messed up when I added the quotes.
