For scheduling the K1 interview, did you have to wait until you heard back from the embassy? I saw online when I checked the NVC that I'm ready to schedule an appointment, but I haven't heard from the embassy to get a consular letter?

The options that would likely apply to me are:

I have received a letter from theh consular section with instructions to register or shedule a K visa appointment.
or
I have received a letter from the consular section with instructions to schedule an immigrant visa appointment"

This step is done after you receive the appointment date from the Embassy (on the US Visa Appointment Services website). The embassy will assign to you a date for the interview. Chile is not like the other 90% of the embassies. I did it this way and my GF got told at the embassy to leave; they said it was not valid and she didn't have an interview date. We were really confused but now looking back and understanding the process it makes sense.

The appointment letter took 4 months for us to arrive. Our paperwork was set to "Ready" and we didn't receive the official letter until March.

Just a lot of patience...eventually it will all work out! buena suerte!

Hey everyone. I am hoping someone may be able to help me or direct me to a thread with advice. I am here in the US and tried applying for my SSN today. The agent said my name in the database is my first and middle name combined instead of my first name being separate from my middle name so they said I need to change this. I tried calling USCIS and they said they aren’t sure what to do because “they aren’t the ones who issued my visa” and I might be able to visit a field office. The SSN office said it wasn’t a big deal and could be easily fixed but I am unsure where to begin this process. Thanks in advance

Did you happen to ask the SS agent where and how to correct. I find it strange that they didn't provide this type of help. You could make a INFOPASS appointment with USCIS and see if they can change it for you. Just google for information on IFP.

Once you get it straightened out can you share what steps you took so if I hear from someone else with the same problem I can share the answer.

Have you tried the SSN thread here on VJ. Go to "forums" and look for the thread.

The agent at the SSN office gave me the address to the federal building and said the issue would be easily resolved. However when I google the field office it says that location does not accept walk ins or scheduling appointments. I have been on the phone with USCIS and they said it could have been when they issued my I-94 so she gave me the number for the Border Control. I will have to wait til Monday to do anything now. Very frustrating

I have a possible silly question that I can’t seem to find the answer to. I am here in the US and my fiancé and I are looking for an apartment (hoping to move in the next few weeks). I am wondering how to inform USCIS of this address change and if we can do this through the online form? Also do we have to do this two separate times (one form for myself and one form for my fiancé, the US citizen?) we are getting married next week so have not filed yet for EAD or AOS

Do it online. Google address change USCIS and your results will lead you to the page for that process.

It's not only normal but it happens to everyone. I read that in the thread which you must of missed.

Just about everyone goes through this process.  Based on the discussions I had with the case officer he informed me of the steps to complete the processing of your visa:

the first AP is the immigration unit doing the paperwork for approving the visa

the first ready is a notice that they are finished and the paperwork is being sent for visa issuance

the second AP is the visa issuance people doing their own paperwork

the second ready is that the visa has been issued and is currently being processed for delivery

Then "issue" is posted and the visa has left the BIG house to YOUR house.

Once you get that second ready, it should be sent out within a few days, although we received our visa before any of the various websites that allow you to look up the status said that it had been sent out.

Thanks @Greenbaum and also i'll take into consideration the holidays during and after my interview week which i guess slowed the process 😉 hopefully tomorrow or in the following days might get the "issued" status

Hi everyone!, Im getting a little confussed with the Social Security process for k1 holders. @Greenbaum you may help.

I got into an SSN guide for k1 holders and says:

1) I have to wait 2 weeks to apply because I will not appear in the USCIS data base to get one. Is this true? Because I wanted to marry asap, and will need to loose a month to apply for the ssn card + the 15 days of issuance, means a month lost to get and ssn number, if I go right now (3rd day of arrival at NY, will this be an issue?)

2)I need the ssn number to apply for AOS, right? Because the information I read says I need to ask for an ssn #, with my work permit, or I should explain I need the ssn number to apply for a work permit?

3) which forms do I need? I know I need I94, passpport, work permit form as well?

4) To have a bank account do I need an ssn # right? Does anyone know how my fiance and I get an account together as proof for AOS?, he does not know how to do that eather, and don't want to make a mistake and loose a proof for the AOS process.

Sorry Im a little confused with the information Im reading on vusajourney and ssn gov page.

Hi, everyone! Im trying to start filling out theI-485 Form for AOS, is asking for an "A # Alien number, where can I find this information? Is the A# with 9 digits wrote by the PO at POE on my passport with the date I arrived?

Thanks!
