Confidential marriage license then CR1

Hey guys need help so i live in the uk and my fiancé lives in the states I’m going to the states on February to marry my wife on a Confidential marriage license in long beach (the confidential marriage license says we need to live together before applying there is no minimum requirement for how long it’s just a technicality). After the marriage i will stay in the states for another week then return to the uk and we will start to file for the CR1 process I just want to know has anyone done this and I’m abit scared because they might say when we apply for the CR1 that I lied about living together and it will affect our whole application can anyone help me?

Can you provide a link to explain this?  I have never heard of a marriage license requiring that you have lived together.  I thought a confidential marriage license just means only the couple can obtain copies..

August 7, 2022: Wife filed N-400 Online under 5 year rule.

November 10, 2022: Received "Interview is scheduled" letter.

December 12, 2022:  Received email from Dallas office informing me (spouse) to be there for combo interview.

December 14, 2022: Combo Interview for I-751 and N-400 Conducted.

January 26, 2023: Wife's Oath Ceremony completed at the Plano Event Center, Plano, Texas!!!😁

February 6, 2023: Wife's Passport Application submitted in Dallas, Texas.

March 21, 2023:   Wife's Passport Delivered!!!!

May 15, 2023 (about):  Naturalization Certificate returned from Passport agency!!

 

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

I think a "confidential" marriage license was originally designed for couples who lived together before officially marrying.  In order to hide thie fact that they had lived "in sin", the law allowed the marriage records to be hidden from public records......it seems this is an option, but is not required.

ive never heard of a confidential marriage license but ok. but why not file for a regular one?

 

as far as what you will be sending to verify the marriage, it will be the marriage certificate. i doubt it would say anything about being confidential or living together.

i 485, 130, EAD and AP

04/09/2019    NOA1 received/check cashed i 485 and 130 (direct adjustment)

11/7/2019      Interview- Norfolk

11/10/2019    APPROVED (notification rec'd 11/10, approval dated 11/8)

DONE FOR TWO YEARS!!! ;)

 

Filed everything ourselves with no RFE's or delays.

 

CR1 for Child under 21 (20 at time of filing)- Filed by LPR Spouse for his son

4/4/20     Mailed packet

4/12/20   NOA1 rec'd

10/14/21 (havent heard anything... when do i start to get worried?)

9/15/22 APPROVED! Now to wait for NVC and interview....

10/14/21 Mailed to AZ PO Box. Let the waiting begin. Again.

10/16/21 Received at PO Box

10/19/21 Received Text NOA1

Nowadays the only people that regularly take advantage of California’s confidential marriage license law are celebrities who don’t want TMZ or People knowing when they got married and their address, etc. 

 

Why are you maintaining secrecy? You are creating more problems for yourself. It will very likely be raised at your interview why you don’t want your marriage on public record. Looks like it’s being kept a secret from your friends and family. Why would anyone keep the happiest event in their lives a secret from those they are close to? This aside from being economical with the truth on living together. 

Timeline in brief:

Married: September 27, 2014

I-130 filed: February 5, 2016

NOA1: February 8, 2016 Nebraska

NOA2: July 21, 2016

Interview: December 6, 2016 London

POE: December 19, 2016 Las Vegas

N-400 filed: September 30, 2019

Interview: March 22, 2021 Seattle

Oath: March 22, 2021 COVID-style same-day oath

 

Now a US citizen!

You need a "marriage certificate".  A "license" allows you to marry.  After marriage, you'll have a marriage certificate. Sometimes they appear on the same page, but a license is not enough.  Unless you have a very good reason to keep your marriage record unavailable to the public, just don't do it that way.

Facts are cheap...knowing how to use them is precious...

As a general rule of thumb do not make things unnecessarily complicated when dealing with Immigration.

Who did or would you lie to about living together?  What is wrong with living together?

December 18, 2023:  Filed I-90 to renew Green Card

December 21, 2023:  Production of new Green Card ordered - will be seeing USCIS again every 10 years for renewal
