For those (including me) right in the path of this demonic storm....stay safe and good luck!

Paul is headed down from canada as we speak. Will be here by morning. My sister is coming to our house thursday morning as is my daughter (we're a bit further inland than they are).  Hoping for no damage. Power outages are a certainty (likely of extended duration), and schools are closed here at least thursday and friday.

Stay safe and get out of this monster's path, y'all .... this is a BAD one (and i grew up with these things and if I'm nervous, EVERYONE should be nervous!)

They're predicting near-Harvey-like rainfall totals, like 3 feet.

Hope that you're stocked up with flashlights, vittles, et al., for selves and pets.

During Ike 10 years ago, I relied on canned stuff edible at room temperature (beans, tuna) till power returned.

Where I am at in NC next to a Army base they are talking about it stalling for almost 24 hours next to the coast and just dumping us with water. So luckily I have off the next couple of days just in case.

I hope everyone stays safe. I have family in North and South Carolina and my dad tried to convince them to stay over at his house but they decided to just ride it out. Super worried for their safety and everyone else's

My in laws are in New Bern and the electricity is out, they are currently using a generator. My wife's sister headed to Atlanta with her new born rather than risk staying in New Bern. Looks like they are in for a rough few days.

I make my final move to the US next Tuesday the 18th flying into DC and have a car rented to drive on down to NC. Got an email earlier from the rental company saying their offices locally won't be open in New Bern to drop the car off (It's a one way rental). I phoned them and they asked if I could bring it back to DC, it's a one way rental why would I want to drive all the way back up? They reckon I will just hold onto the car until the office opens.

Anyways best wishes to all over the next few days, stay safe.

Where in NC are you moving to? New Bern is a nice little town btw right on the water, unfortunately it has been flooding along the river for a few hours now.

I live in between Fayetteville and Sanford right now. The winds have been going much of the day but it has picked up in the last hour or so. Luckily we are on high ground so we don't have to worry about flooding but the main roads leading out all have low bridges that probably will flood.

New Bern is a nice place.  Welcome home.  And I’d drive the heck outta the rental.  Tell the company to come pick it up when they get back to work.

Initially we will be staying in New Bern with my in laws until we make a final decision where we want to live. I love New Bern and I like the small town feeling but we may end up possibly in Greenville.

Looking at the live webcams earlier on Atlantic beach it didn't seem too bad but some photos we have seen look real bad. My mother in law was saying Union Point in New Bern was badly flooded and blocked, she wanted to evacuate to Raleigh but my father in law wasn't feeling great this morning, (agent orange left its mark on him) I reckon your area will still get a good chunk of water dropped on it over night, so be safe.

I wonder if it will make a turn towards Georgia or Virginia In the next day or two.

Thank you very much.

At Christmas i just love that small town feeling, sooo friendly. I think last year we attend 5 veterans dinners, my wife's parents like to bring us along to get to meet people and the food is quite good too.

I was actually looking forward to driving my own car that I purchased before last Christmas. I wouldn't have bought it if I'd known we would be this long getting over. Oh well the in laws gave it plenty of use while theirs was in the shop. But sure as anything the rental will be well used until it's collected.

A lot of people will lose their vehicles in this thing, so you'll be in better shape than most.

If the rental company contracted with you for a one-way rental, and if they'll be unable to uphold their half of the bargain (office closed, can't collect car), logic dictates that they shouldn't charge you for any extra days that you keep it.  Or something like that.
