On May 14, 2018, USCIS will begin recalling approximately 8,543 Permanent Resident Cards (also known as Green Cards) due to a production error. The Green Cards were for approved Form I-751, Petition to Remove Conditions of Residence for spouses of U.S. citizens. The cards were printed with an incorrect “Resident Since” date and mailed between February and April 2018.

Probably USCIS since the memo says nothing about residents paying.

So I guess also.. taxpayers? :P

This is inexcusable, imo.....

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

USCIS is a fee-based agency, so on this occasion, it's kind of us paying? Although we paid regardless lol. I'm interested to see if they keep to the 15 day turnaround time. Myself and a few others were instructed to send our cards back to CSC to have them fixed last month and we haven't had them back yet.

ROC from CR-1 visa (Green Card expiration date was Nov 24th 2016)

Link to the evidence I submitted. Be sure to send evidence spanning your entire marriage (especially for K-1) or as far back as you can. Just one or two bank statements will not cut it. I primarily focused on the two years of living here since I came in on a CR-1. If you don't have the fundamentals (i.e. joint accounts/policies), you can explain why in the covering letter. E.g. "While we do not have joint utilities, we both contribute to them from our joint bank account".

September 26th 2016: I-751 package sent to CSC

September 28th 2016: Package delivered
September 30th 2016: Check cashed
October 3rd 2016: NOA1 received with receipt date of 09/28/16
November 3rd 2016: Biometrics received with appointment date of 11/14/16.
November 14th 2016: Attended biometrics appointment
October 30th 2017: Infopass appointment to get I-551 stamp
February 26th 2018: I-751 case number (aka the NOA1 receipt number) becomes trackable
March 14th 2018: Submitted service request due to being outside of processing time.

March 15th 2018: ROC approved. 535 days (1 year, 5 months and 17 days)

March 29th 2018: Card being produced

April 4th 2018: Card mailed out

April 6th 2018: Card in hand. Has incorrect "resident since" date. Submitted service request on I-751 case (typographical error on permanent resident card) and an I-90 online.

April 2018 - August 7th 2018: Tons of service requests, emails and now senator involvement to get my corrected green card back because what the heck, USCIS. Also some time in May I sent a letter to Potomac telling them I want to withdraw my I-90 since CSC were handling it.

August 8th 2018: Card in production thanks to the direct involvement of Senator Sherrod Brown's team

August 13th 2018: Card mailed

August 15th 2018: Card in hand with correct date. :joy:

October 31st 2018: Potomac sends out a notice stating they have closed out my I-90 per my request. Yay for no duplicate card drama.

It just sucks, because people are already waiting FOREVER for their ROC to be approved (me included) and then USCIS makes mistakes like this...

And what about all the false biometrics letters circulating where people need to fly cross country to attend a biometrics?  Or those who who need to return for a new one because USCIS is stating their previous one (that was taken 9 months ago) aren't usable anymore.

What's up with that??

Inexcusable IMO.

how can we return the green card if my wife actually outside of the country

my advice would be to have her home as soon as possible also send her a scan the letter to travel with as it does indicate based on the letter I have received these cards have been flagged in the system and even though it does not affect her status as LPR it may affect her travel wise and because we know how confused the system can be at times to prevent all this confusion with her traveling and such its best to have her return and send it in just to get the correct one and resolve the issue. the letter I also received said return the card as soon as possible but no later than 20 days which I believe if 20 days has passed they wont accept it and who knows what might be the situation then. the letter also state this can cause issues for naturalization so best bet get her home soon to avoid the drama with USCIS.

thanks nywesteq i thought of her sending me the card via mail and send it to them

im not entirely sure of how it works sending documents like those via the mail I know however a friend of mine mailed a passport and it was seized I would want to believe they treat all those documents the same. however that would be something to research to be sure first and not have it seized.

To avoid any problem when returning back to the USA, I will suggest you contact the US embassy in Morocco or USCIS here for the way forward.

I have just sent my green card back in the pre-paid envelope provided to. They need to get it back to me before the end of June as we will be flying out to Britain.

What a mess, I hope this does not hold up my N-400 application, the biometrics appointments was in April and I am waiting for the interview.

After all the waiting we have to put up with nonsense........honestly
