ead Working before EAD is received?

Hi, me and my husband just got married yesterday so we are about to apply for AOS, SSN and EAD and all that fun stuff. He met up with a potential employer who might be interested in hiring me, they have a 4 star lodge up in the woods and apparently have had people from Canada and from other countries work for them before and they told him they can hire me as soon as I apply for my work permit, I just need to have a proof I applied for it. I have never heard about that before and I'm wondering if this is legit? Because obviously I don't want to start working and get into trouble if this is not the case. But the sooner I can start to work the better. I know about the 90 day temporary work permit. How long does it take to issue that? Because waiting maybe 4-6 months for the permanent EAD is gonna be very hard for me, never been unemployed before.

You need to have your EAD in hand before applying for jobs and working. It's not legal to work "while waiting for it".

If this is 100% job offer, you can try to apply for the expedite of the work permit based on that.

 

If not being able to work is hard for you, you should have apply for the spouse visa instead. But can't change that now.

As Roel said, you need to have your approved EAD in hand before you can legally work; otherwise you will be working illegally and that will get you into trouble, so don't do it. This is one of the con's of coming in on a K1 visa. Drove my husband nuts not to work for several months before he got his EAD so I understand the frustration but it is what it is now.

you are perfectly legal to apply and have interviews but you can not do any work even unpaid till you have the ead. a job offer is a valid reason to expedite.

Yeah that's what I thought, I thought it was strange to be supposedly allowed to work without having received the EAD.. That's why I wanted to check to be sure. 

 

Well I'd rather be with my husband as soon as possible, spousal visas take so long to process  compared to K1

You can work once the EAD is approved. Many employers will not accept a potential employee until they actually see the EAD (to comply with their employee verification requirements). You are not authorized to work before then.

Not even unpaid jobs? So volunteer work isn't allowed then?

Everyone  that commented here are right. You have to get an EAD or GC  to able to work.

Unpaid job, no. Volunteer? Depends...if you are displacing a legal worker, then it's not permitted. So volunteering at a soup kitchen is fine. Volunteering as like an unpaid receptionist would probably not be fine.

volunteer work is a very gray area since it can be argued that the immigrant is gaining experience which is just as valuable as working for some fields and by them taking the volunteer position it is costing a usc the chance to get that experience so then they would not get the paid job.

 

however volunteering where there are an unlimited number of spots like a trail or beach clean up would be fine since the immigrant is not taking a spot that prevents someone else from volunteering.  but if it was an assistant coach spot then that is something that could be viewed as the immigrant is preventing a usc from getting the work experience since there are a limited number of spots.

Hey guys I have a question. I got my ead approval letter but no card yet. If an employer sees the approval as enough. Is it legal to work?

The letter itself says you can't use it as a work authorization, you need to wait for the card.
