So, does anyone have any insight into why all of our timelines keep getting pushed back? Seems like it's been happening for a month, but I keep hearing reports of people saying "I remember back in the day you could get approved even before you knew you had to file...." (Okay, bit of an exaggeration...) BUT, I was wondering if anyone who has ears a little more to the ground when it comes to knews or USCIS info had any ideas why this is. I can only think of two things: 1.) sudden influx of applications or 2.) sudden outflow of employees (firings/lay offs/retirements without rehires, etc.). I guess it could be procedural changes but that just boggles the mind.

There are now thousands and thousands of petitions every month. Long processing times have been the standard for more than a year.  At the end of March 2017, there were more than a million pending I-130s at the end of March 2017.  Since every case has to be closely scrutinized by human eyes, it is a slow process.

Texas service center is here in Dallas....not affected by hurricane.

I always wonder why people seem to think that immigration is something that is done within preferably one month?

OP, according to your profile you are petitioning your fiance(e)? I-129F approvals are generally within 3-4 months, sometimes two, but always within five months. Five months is the standard time. Always expect the standard processing time instead of other cases their time lines or whatever the timelines say on this website. It mostly has to do with volumes of petitions, holidays, officers going on vacation, not enough staff etc etc.

Without sounding rude - you've barely even started your process with USCIS and you're already complaining about the length of time it takes.

Yes, it's hard being away from the person you love but you've literally barely started your immigration journey. If you can't wait a few months for your K1 process, how are you going to handle let's say a year for your AOS? 15 months for your ROC? 12 months for your N400 application? (Obviously examples but I'm just giving you a general idea).

Always within 5 months? HA! I wish USCIS made that kind of guarantee. When I filed the I-129F in 2014, people processed at TSC were delighted if it they were approved in 5 months (or less). Many were 6+ months. A bunch of us were super happy when our files were transferred to CSC after sitting at TSC for nearly 5 months (due to TSC being so far behind I guess)...

Anyway, OP, the K-1 process seems to ebb and flow. USCIS sometimes is very quick, sometimes very slow. Why? Who knows...

I'm not getting impatient, it's just this whole process has got me a little curious about immigration stuff and I like getting explanations for changes that happen.

I totally understand! it is hard to wait, especially when you see that there are others finally getting to be with their loved ones. When I filed, I mentally prepared myself for it to take much longer than what the average time was. So, if it happens to go faster, I will be pleasantly surprised.

On another tangent... Do you know when they send out RFEs? Do they wait until they actually look at your case? Or could it happen before? Just questions that I am wondering about. haha

As I understand it it's when they finally look at your case at the end of the 3-5 month wait. I'm not sure what the turn around is once you send that in, but I've been seeing 1-2 months on that USCIS app.

Ok. That's what I was thinking. I think of way too many questions while waiting, and trying to plan a wedding without a specific date in mind is challenging. haha

For what it's worth, OP, I read your post as a curious question rather than impatience -- though deep down, who isn't impatient throughout this process?

My application was just recently filed on 9/5. I'm setting my expectations on a 5 month wait to NAO2, but I wouldn't be surprised if it took longer at this juncture.
