Traveling on Extension Letter?

Hey folks, I know I'm being paranoid but I just want to double check that I'm not forgetting anything.
I'm flying home with my wife (US-citizen) for a week with an expired GC and a valid receipt notice. I also called American Airlines to double check with them that they'd accept it on the way back, and they said it's fine. 

Is there anything else that I might need other than the expired GC and the valid receipt notice with a valid passport? I know I'm being paranoid but I just want to double (or even triple) check that I'm good before I leave.

You fine - we just did this tuesday with the letter.   Make sure you take the original letter.   American Airlines didn't even check the letter.  Immigration didn't ask for it either.   We usually use her Global Entry but somehow we forgot that.

you will be just fine. My wife travelled from karachi to Houston Via Qatar Airways with no problem( with expired GC and original Extension letter)

I returned to the States yesterday. There were no problems at any boarding point with my extension letter at all BUT I want to share my experience about clearing US customs which was different than any other entries I have ever had...

 

The officer asked me where I was coming from and how long I stayed there. Then he asked me where my wife was. I answered that she wasn't with me and that we are not together anymore. He asked so it didn't work out? I told him that it did not. He then proceeded to tell me that my GC was based on marriage to which I responded that I was aware and also that I had requested removing conditions based on good faith marriage. He then stamped my passport, handed me my docs and wished me a good day..

 

While there probably isn't anything unusual in this I still found my experience to be different/unusual. This was first anyone ever directly ask about my ex-wife at the border.

My wife and I are part of the waiting process at the moment. Since COVID happened, it kinda pushed back our appointment, which was said to be scheduled since last February 2020. Just want to make sure I understand. So if we travel outside the U.S., all we need are:

 

1. her expired green card

2. Valid passport (unexpired)

3. notice of action from USCIS 

 

Guess. I just want to know, for the plan of action letter, this is the last letter received from USCIS, right? The last we have is the biometrics appointment that has a stamp on it. Other than that, we are still waiting for our appointment with them to prove we entered our marriage in good faith. Unsure if this includes the letter from them that has the bold lettering 'Request for Evidence'. Or if it's just the latest plan of action we have (which is actually from 2019 due to COVID). The NOAs issued in the last year plus include the phrase 18 month extension on it.  That and the above is all you need.

USCIS does not offer any other extension letter, right? It's just the NOAs that we have ? Beyond the 18 month extension that is mentioned in the NOAs, we would need to reach out to USCIS for an update on our case, is that right?

after 18 months you can get a stamp on the passport.

I don't see why you would. If you're traveling on a US driver's license, you wouldn't even show anyone your GC. My wife solely uses her state driver's license, which is a Real ID so you can use it in any domestic airport.

I am sure that is why they created Real ID program , Driver license with that Star sign should fulfil the purpose domestically.

POE at Newark yesterday, entered with expired GC and extension letter, all went without a hitch. Airline gate agent wanted to see both GC and letter upon boarding, but no additional questions were asked, or to my surprise no copies of the  extension letter were requested by the airline (this time SAS) either.
