For me, my entire life. Have never had a problem with a gun, and have owned one since I was seven.

When did large numbers of very diverse people ever get along without problems?

My question wasn't a personal one, it was a general question that includes the general public. NB insinuated that there is currently a problem with people owning guns and asked what changed. I am asking if there ever was a time when a society with easy access to guns was problem free? I don't know of any such time.

People of all types get a long everyday without shooting each other. Not sure how that question relates to owning guns.

Only 18, must have a hard life.

The cop who shot him looks much younger.

Was there ever a time in history when people got along well enough to not fight and kill? I mean, that sort of predates guns. As I stated... The issue is NOT the tool. It is the wielded of the tool that is the root of the problem. Always has been, always will be.

You and I don't use guns, knives, shovels, hammers, spoons, wooden stakes, tent pegs, hair pins, cyanide pills disguised as acetaminophen, or anything else to kill those we disagree with. We're fairly civilized, IMHO. But that cannot be said of everyone around us.

Gun access has not changed , if anything it's gotten more restricted.

As I said before, in the late 19th century it was common in many towns that you had to check your weapon in with the sheriff. The weapon would be returned when you left town. Today they would have to pry that weapon from your cold dead hands. No one challenged the constitutionality of it back then either.

You're correct it does predate guns. But the issue that was being discussed and NB's post that I replied to was about guns.

The period to which you refer, guns were used to settle small disagreements. Call someone a name such as happens here in CEHST almost daily, and you'd get called out and either shoot or get shot. We have advanced from there.

Duels were common in western movies. In real life, they were actually very rare in this country. They were quite common in Russia though. Especially among writers and poets, for some reason.

any history on how he became an lpr? I'm seeing a lot of "this is why we don't need refugee" posts

Catholic Charities of Dallas says the organization helps relocate approximately 250 refugee families annually from war torn countries in the Middle East like Iraq and Syria and Somalia in eastern Africa. Executive director David Woodyard says it's about serving those in need.

Rumor has it that was because their tights were so restrictive.

Ummm, no. I wasn't referring to western movies. The more well-known ones, they were few and far between. But there were many gunfights between individuals and ranchers and squatters that didn't make the list. Surely less than today, because the population density was much less. The sheer number of guns were less. But don't go believing what you read on the internet today about gun battles in the 1800s.

But my main point is... There have always been weapons at our disposal. And they are not really used all that often, as you said. When they are, it's always due to a human's decision to do so. Gun, knife, machete, bow & arrow, hammer... It all comes back to what's in the heart.

Parents who give their kids no consequences for their foul ways?

GTA and MW3?

I honestly do not know how today's kids got to be the way they are. I mean, gun homicides are actually down over the past 30 years, it's only MSM reporting that makes it look so bad. But there does seem to be a propensity the past 3-4 years or so to wreak havoc with guns. And not always with the younger crowd.
