Do they do a drug test for the interview for green card?

The interview is not your problem. Your medical is where all your plans and dreams will come to an end.

I've passed the medical/K-1 stage.

I've been living in the U.S and am now working legally.

I am just waiting on my final interview for the greencard. I've heard some people get to skip it.

Didn't think it was a big deal to smoke weed, morally or otherwise, maybe I should have clarified in my original post at what stage I was at.

Regardless of state jurisdiction it's still illegal on a federal level.

Considering weed is legal in certain states, I do wonder if there are exceptions regarding the medical.

Personally, I would stop and not even consider touching it ever... Depending the types of tests done, further testing could be conducted to conclude prior results in more detail. You know it stays in your system a while and how things are concluded varies on the test done.

There's no medical done for a greencard, that's done prior to actually obtaining some form of status. If adjusting from k1, then k1 is the medical. If CR1 i assume so, but no idea. AOS there's no medical it was already done on k1. Just figure out when and where your medical will be.

Thanks for the helpful reply.

I'm going to stop just to be safe, even though you and other have said there is no medical coming up for me.

Better to be safe than sorry I suppose.

Yeah I am past the K-1 stage. We got married and I submitted my medical already for the AOS.

Now I am just waiting for the interview for the green card.

I didn't think there was any medical for the green card, which I why I smoked some in the first place.

But I will stop until I have my green card, just to be safe.

The reason I asked VJ was just to be sure.

Then you'll have stop for ROC and again for Naturalization. It's still a federal offense which could cause you to be found excludeable. Good to ask, better to consider the consequences.

Your first card is conditional, good for 2 years. Before it expires, you will remove the conditions giving you a 10 year card. Once you're married for 3 years and having lived in the U.S. during that period, you can file for naturalization. The IOs you will be dealing with from here out are government employees that take their positions seriously. They are good at sussing out the truth, if you get caught lying your immigration journey ends. And, you say you're not in Texas anymore but, should you get busted for weed somewhere else it could also end your journey. It's up to you but, I reckon I'd say smoking weed at this point was something that I used to do.

Another medical exam isn't part of the standard AOS process, but just remember that the medical you did for the K-1 expires is valid for one year. If your first medical expires before AOS is processed, USCIS will make you do another.

My husband was a major stoner (unbeknownst to me) and he passed the K1 medical just fine, even though he smoked weed during the time of medical. I suspect they don't actually check for illegal substances.

He left for a trip to his home country while a conditional resident, and was asked upon re-entry if he used illegal substances/smoked pot. He told the officer that he used to, but he stopped now "because my wife doesn't like it". They let him back into the country without issue.

I would also recommend quitting just to be on the safe side, but frankly, I doubt it would cause any problems for you. Then again, you might be the ONE person out of hundreds who is the exception, so why risk it?

I think I have 1 or 2 months left before my medical expires.

Hopefully they have called me for my interview before then.

If not, I will be okay.

Why not just quit? Not for immigration purposes but for your own health?

Why don't people stop drinking alcohol for their own health?

Why don't people stop eating junk food for their own health?

I enjoy it.

It's not like I light up every day. I actually go to the gym and lead a pretty healthy life.

Not to mention it's actually healthier than other drugs, especially since I vape it.

Why don't you go be judgemental someplace else. It's 2016.

Even at an interview they can ask for a new medical. Having an interview does not mean you will not get an RFE for a new medical, or anything else.

They could also send an RFE asking for a new medical before approving you without interview. You just never know, so it is up to you whether or not to risk it while in the middle of immigration processing.

Being worried about someone's lungs and brain, is that judging or concern for someone's health?
