The good that can come in the waiting is that if you applied for a CR-1 conditional and the process extends past you being married two years than you automatically move up to the ten year green card. Somehow that makes the delay worth it!

I applied in September , 2013 and had my interview and was approved September, 2015. I received my stamped passport a week and a half later and crossed at a P.O.A. in October.

Keep hanging on, calling the NVC....

Not sure why everyone's arguing about which process is worse. They're both terrible for all involved.

I don't understand the justification for needing to take so long - our visa fees are supposed to cover the costs. So why do have to pay so much and still wait so long? Shouldn't they hire more people to go quicker? Why is the system not more computerized?

None of our families, friends, or colleagues understand why it should take so long. Probably because most people who go through this process go through it only once, so there's really no large constituency to push for reforms.

Oh well. Nothing we can do about it other than to wait and keep our hopes up that everything will go quickly.

i was wondering too, how come fiancee visa gets here faster than those whose already married, children as well as parents of USC

Why not ask why a CR-1 is a LPR right away when they come here and a K-1 visa is not ? The reason is a Cr-1 visa is also applying for greencard.

Visa +greencard =2 processes a k-1 only a visa =1 processes +later process after in the U.S. If you will look closer at the two visa then you will notice that each has advantage and disavantage

one process is always going to be faster then doing two processes

The idea of premium processing has been bandied about before. I personally am against it as it seems like catering to the rich

100% agree! I could only see it turning into a bidding war and a lot of genuine people being pushed into a black hole of visa processing.

The TSC just needs to work at the same pace as CSC. Then, all the spouses that want to join the AOS world, could file a K-3 and they would have all the advantage over a K-1.

How many here had their K-3 petition closed?

You're right. Point taken. The impression I got is a lot of k1 visa applicants meet on the internet and have one or two obligatory visits before applying for this visa then voila 6 months later in the US getting married - which to me screams marriage fraud. Whereas if you've met someone in person, lived with them, got to know them, married etc it kinda says genuine relationship. I think in the immigration process there is very little distinction being made and the people who met yesterday at being given the same rights those with established relationships. We are being treated like criminals for falling in love.

Sorry for the bitterness.

Well your impression is wrong. I've visited my fiancé 5x. I just read a post about someone going to Nigeria to get married on the very first visit. Maybe you need more post reading under your belt before making sweeping generalizations.

Also K1 are supposed to be quicker. It costs more and has the possibility of needing 2 interviews before receiving your greencard. As another poster said K1 is only a visa more steps are needed to obtain a GC once in USA. CR1 step foot in USA with GC. Your comparing apples to oranges. Perhaps some guides would help for a better understanding.

This whole NVC case completion waiting is ridiculous. How come they prioritize fiance visa while they make married couples away from each other for a long time? Don't they have life partners too? They don't know how it feels, and the burden of waiting.

If you're in the Philippines, like me, try calling the NVC at exactly 6:58pm Monday-Friday... I have gotten through every time within 15 minutes or less. Once you get through they are actually quite helpful. Make sure you know what you're going to ask them before you call. They have zero patience for people who don't know why they're calling. Be clear, direct, polite and as non-emotional as possible in your questions and requests. They will provide you with whatever information they can to help you. My wife is Filipina and she has had a hard time with this too so I understand what you're going through! You can do it! We have been waiting since 2014 because we had to file for a waiver for my wife.. This process is not easy at all!

Give it a try!

Once you get through press 1 and then 7 to go directly to the hold queue...

If you get through right at 7:00pm then you'll most likely only wait for a few minutes. I have called them numerous times and Gina is definitely the most helpful agent! If you get through to Gina then consider yourself lucky.. Waldo is the least helpful, don't expect anything from him, I get the impression that he doesn't like his job haha... Best of luck to you!
