As someone who's petitioning a Ghanaian spouse, I find the CO's advice and thoughts very useful.

I was reading the consulars are not supposed to reajudicate petitions. They are supposed to only act on new information uscis had no knowledge of.

And that goes to a question I would like to ask him/her in private if I could.

Your perception of 'rudeness' is your own....in my experience, people who have called me or my colleagues rude were only those who didn't qualify for a visa....they believe (erroneously) that a CO must believe every word and every paper said or presented....they don't. Just because you say something does not make it true, and a CO is not rude for not believing you....after all, none of us know how you or your husband presented their case...we have only your version....

In my experience, when someone is denied, even temporarily, and asked about it by their spouse, finance or 'friends', the typical response attempts to cast aspersions on the CO, putting the entire blame on that person instead of themselves.

Becoming a CO is not as simple as filling out an application form and fogging a mirror....less than 2% of original applicant pool succeed, by passing a series of written and oral exams that weed out lots of people...then follows weeks of intense training, followed by on the job training and experience, preceded by a length presentation about the country they are about to be assigned...regarding that country's economy, political climate, and yes, fraud rate. They don't go into the field unprepared.

USCIS does not interview the two parties in most cases...the petition approval standards are quite low, and they leave it to the COs to sort out the wheat from the chaff.

If this was referring to me I'm the petitioner and I was treated very rudely when I visited the Embassy it had nothing to actually do with the interview. So now what?

CO's can be rude and that is not the opinion of someone that was refused a visa. When the CO asked if my husbands father had died because he married a white woman we were granted a visa and there was no excuse in the world for that comment. Most CO's have an IQ slightly above the gardener ( good clerks are not the sharpest ) . If they were the highly skilled people they see themselves as they wouldn't get it wrong so often. A lengthy presentation about the country please. The Mormon church does a better job at training missionaries about the culture and customs. With the US economy being what it is there are frequently 100's of applicants for job so only a small percentage make the grade.

its obvious that standing behind the glass only looking out has blinded you! Until your in a embassy facing a rude, and uncaring co you will never understand! It's as simple as that ?

Dear Nigeria or Bust: I would DEFY you to become a CO....they are not 'clerks'....any of them would run circles around you while holding their breath.

I would ask anyone to provide 100% proof of rudeness, not merely hearsay 'evidence.'

Just because a CO does not immediately grant a visa does not make them rude....I doubt if anyone on this site, save for me, even knows what the laws and regulations are that govern visa adjudication. Because none of you have ever been a CO. Gosh, what about a rude airline pilot? Are you going to claim that you could do that job just as easily as a pilot? Really?

Please...all of you who think you know more than even the greenest of COs, please...call the State Dept and tell them about your qualifications, and then see if they send a car to pick you up, transfer you to Washington and put you in charge of the visa process....

How would one have proof of rudeness for a process that the offending party protects their misbehavior by making sure there is no record ? If I hand the keyboard to my husband the complaint is no longer hearsay so that agreement is void. I know there are several people on this site that know more than you will ever know about immigration. I have no ability to become a CO, they have age limits for appointments the only job I saw that I could qualify for is an AAAS fellowship. Even if I was in the age bracket the pay cut would be terrible let alone the lack of anything meaningful for work.

I open this forum because I thought we were going to get some advice on what to do if the CO asked inappropriate questions but it has become a fight about Ghana high faud issue. I am sorry you get held to higher standards and that it seems that so many people get denied hopefully your cases will be approved with strong evidence. Stay Stong!

My fiance will have his interview at embassy that deals with high faud, New Delhi, and I am preparing him to deal with cultural question I thought were not a problem until I got on this site. We had red flags in our case because we are interracial, different religions, are planning a western wedding, have lived together before we got married solo and at his parents house. I feel these problems would not be issues at other embassy especially ones in Europe and it upsets me that the COs will ask these questions when if I married a man from the US these issues would never be mentioned. I have heard stories about the COs getting people phones and calling random family members to make sure that the know about the relationship, asked if they had sex, judge the man family because the US citizen lived with them, and being asked if the family has issue with the US citizen being white. These questions being asked bother me because I feel like in today society they should not be asked because its acceptable for to different cultured people to get married. I know they are trying to find the fraud cases and I should not have a problem but it bothers me that my COs who are Americans are asking questions from a prejudice mindset.

Here is the main reason I posted to this topic: Becoming a CO is extremely difficult and to call these people dumb just shows that you have no idea what your talking about. I have my Master's in International Relations and it is my dream to work for the state department. To get pass the first stage, these officers have to take a four hour long test on personality, cultural, history, English skills, and management. After that test, they write personal essays, then take a group test, and finally have a group interview. I think about 20,000 people apply maybe even more, but they only hire about a 1,000. It takes over a year to go through this process and once your selected, your trained for six months in the local language and cultural of your selected country. So if you think these people are stupid and do not work hard to get these jobs, you are wrong. Yes the person you deal with who organizes the papers or gives you a token is outsourced but the people who do the interviews are trained Americans.

I just hope that the day my fiance does his interview I prepared him enough and provided enough documentation because that is all I can do. Ill fight for our relationship, which I can see that the rest of you are willing to do to.

If Ghana has high fraud then they need to add additonal qualifications for the type of proof they are looking for in the instructions when you apply. Ask for specific evidence and take the mystery out of the situation. Don't let people submit forms from the generic list of requirements. Obvioulsy, those requirements are not adequate for most African countries. If the burdern of proof is going to be at a higher standard , just state it up front. Then people can prepare to give more information than what is required for the filing. Let petitioners know up front, and not wait until 2 years later at the interview can claim fraud. Because waiting for almost 2 years later and then getting a denied without providing an answer why is anguish. So of course people are going to be pissed.

That makes sense and seems like a great solution that these embassy with high fraud cases should do. It is lucky we have a site like this that prepares us for what is expected and provides a community where people can ask advice on how to make stronger cases from people with experience.

I was just thinking about how his interview feels like we are going to marriage counselor beforehand to make sure that our marriage lasts with all the questions that they ask. Sometime I wish it was simple, what day are you going to get married, how long have you known each other, and how did ya'll meet but no with a high fraud embassy you get the third degree and hard questions.

Unfortunately there can't be the transparency that you desire. At that point you're opening the process up to further fraudulent documents and such. That and if denied perhaps further issues for complaints on an open forum like this "well I had so and so document, why did I get refused?" Etc

What's with Administrative Processing when nothing else is needed? Just background checks or what? Why does it takes so long, especially when the people involved have no criminal or bad records?? When does it end, and visa issued?
