Facebook status

Hi everyone!

I recently got engaged to my gf. Does the USCIS look at facebook to determine the validity of a relationship? Would it affect the k1 approval if we didn't update our fb status to engaged?

My fiancée is worried if she updates her status, her bosses from work (call center) would see it and it might affect her position/standing at work knowing she may be leaving soon. This might also pose a problem if our k1 doesn't get approved (since its not a guarantee) as she'd be staying at her company longer with her bosses already potential looking at her in a negative light.

Any experiences or thoughts on this?

Thanks!

To my knowledge, Facebok plays no role. I never updated my status until my wi and I were actually married, and we never really used FB for any communication, so we did not provide any relationships evidence from there. The only requirement is that you have met your fiance in person in the past two years.

Good Luck!

I'm not sure it's safe to say they will not look at Facebook. That being said, I can't see that being something that's on the top of their list to check. . I never updated my status for certain reasons as well. I also keep everything about my Facebook private, so it's not something they could probably see anyways.

For me, FB didn't play any role and I didn't include any FB chats in my application. However, I did have a friend who said his FB chats with his now wife were ultimately requested by USCIS--But this seems to be an exception.

Uscis prolly doesn't have the time to look at FB. But it's something that might happen from the embassy. Of course all of them are different, but when my fiancé had his interview, they asked him for his FB and checked it right there during the interview.

They can and have checked social media sites. However, a FB status alone would not be a reason to deny the K-1.

Hi,

Your status on FB is self reported. It carries little weight.

A friend's son met a girl online. They have never met. He changes his FB status to engaged. How much credibi!ity would you give him from his FB status? I gave him none because he's a moron. People can list whatever they want on FB.

My Facebook is completely locked down because I'm in the military, same with fiancé. USCIS couldn't see it if they tried. Also, what if I don't have FB? Does that make me not engaged? Facebook statuses mean nothing in the real world. You're fine...

I wouldn't worry about her work. She makes what $1 per hour, Tell her to post what she wants on facebook..........

Oh.....and WTH? Real nice....

Look at it from the other side. Maybe the person attempting to commit visa fraud posts "Engaged" and shows it as "Proof of relationship". Do you think that carries any weight? Uh, no...

Both my fiancee' and I have our relationship status as "In a relationship since July 4, 2012", which is true and we also state in our documents as the day we first met.

That said, there had been few posting here on USCIS asking

Social Media, is absolutely a non-factor with anything doing with USCIS,.,.,., they could care less, since 90% of that stuff is "hear-say!"
