So my fiance who is from England and I are filling for immigration next week. I was wondering if once he becomes immigrated and get his green card if hes required to have health insurance just like everyone else here? Or if thats just for US citizens.

I moved over in April and don't have health insurance yet, I HATE not having it.....long story.Under the new Obamacare rules we'll be fined/taxed.

Anyway I'd suggest you get him on it ASAP. Ive been really ill since October, pneumonia and then a secondary infection for which we've had to pay ALOT of money for treatment.

I never thought I'd miss the good old crappy NHS!!!!

helping each other is not a bad thing since you could benefit from it if you are in a bad position. But I see...taking without giving is always easier.

I don't understand why you wouldn't want to get your new bride both health insurance and a life insurance policy for yourself. Do you "have to" shouldn't even be a question. Don't you love this woman? Do you "have to" get her a cell phone? Do you "have to" get her a car? C'mon man ... if she was a local girl you would certainly take care of her.

He'll need to be covered by March 31 to avoid a penalty for 2014. You have until December 23 to purchase coverage that would begin January 1.

Actually the spouse doesn't even have to be married to get insurance on the own, but it cant be on your plan til you are both married. As long as you have a SS# and the packet from your POE, you can get insured through the market place, assuming its working that is. You can go to Kaiser Family Foundation website and enter the applicable info requested, and get pretty accurate rates as to prices including the applied tax reductions that most people will be able to use.

Altonbebe, you have no idea what your talking about, as far as prices or as to how this or any other insurance plan works, but insurance plans don't work the way that your ranting about. Try doing some research in the real world, before ranting. If nothing else, at least you'll be an informed ranter.

If OP is indeed from Minnesota, they have their own state-built site called MNsure. It's working better than the federal site.
