Including Translation with Proof

Hello All!

I'm almost done assembling everything but wanted to double check my proof of relationship.

Being a graphic designer, I am very OCD with how I lay out images and text and hate Word! So I've used InDesign which makes it easier to lay out images with text.

I made it that, if I have a scan of a letter or screen shot of a conversation in Spanish, next to that in a light grey box I have the translation. And I have it laid out in a way that matched the original set up so who ever is reading it understands who is saying what.

Does that seem correct/efficient or should all translations be separate pages even if it's just 3 or 4 lines?

Would love to get input and see how others have done it.

Your translations look good. When we did translations we also included clauses that says these translations are accurate and correct and I am competent to translate these documents.

I am not sure about what other people has done.

Of course you may know this already, but proof of relationship is completely different than proof of meeting within 2 years. So many get RFEs for that.

USCIS will probably not even read it, so not really a reason to translate it all. The relationship proof you add in with your I-129F is so it will be in your file and forwarded to your consulate for the K-1 interview and CO there to see. Things in the native language of the country you interview in do not need to be translated.

The most important things for the I-129F petition are to make sure you provided enough proof of having met face-to-face within the 2 years prior to filing, that you are both free to marry, and that you include all the required supporting documentation that goes along with the I-129F.

Yes! The first part of the proof part is proof of contact in the past two years. My passport first page and the pages with the stamps to prove travel, my flight itinaries, photographs I took at an event with him in them (right before I met him) with screen shots of the date when I uploaded to my computer. Then I topped it off with 6 printed photographs of us the second time I went back to see him.

Then what follows is proof of ongoing relationship which has most of the items needed to be translated. After much research on the thread I concluded that it's better to give them more than little now so I have less chances for them to request an RFE. Also the proof of ongoing relationship is also proof of contact in the last 2 years anyways.

I definitely did provide proof of contact in the past two years as stated in the post right before this one (passport scans, itinaries, screen shots of photos and dates, plus 6 actual printed photos). I am submitting the extra proof since I have read that it helps so that they don't have a reason to give you a RFE. I've also read that it gives them more material to question your fiancé at the interview, but I'd rather get that interview than get delayed for insufficient evidence.

If I have all the proper documents plus the 2 year contact proof, the extra can't hurt right?

If that's what you think though then I am glad to hear the way I provide the translation isn't as crucial as the other required elements. Thanks so much for the info!

Pero lo que en la embajada quieren ver es algún documento escrito por el de puno y letra y que firme, el que presentas en el papel carton se ve que es una buena prueba...las traducciones no son necesarias ...

yo lleve a la entrevista muchas pruebas de relación, pero ellos solo tomaron para revisar las cartas y las notas escritas por mi amor donde se ve claramente su firma o su nombre. Al menos en mi experiencia fue asi, recuerda que cada caso es diferente.

The chief reason for "front-loading" the USCIS petition package with "evidence of bona fide relationship" is to help the consular officer make a decision, after USCIS forwards the petition into the consulate's hands. Lima is not known as a nasty embassy, but I wouldn't monkey around with any Latin/South American consulate. The front-loading that you describe sounds very reasonable, for your situation. Be thankful that the eventual consular interview won't occur in the smaller country just to the north.

I met my fiance while I was volunteering abroad and I met him one night that I went out. I have screenshots of our text messages planning for our second meet up and other meets up that we'd had and it includes pictures that we took. In order to show proof, I wanted to show how we were organizing to meet up and then when we met up.

I had a co-worker of mine translate our whatsapp conversations and he made them look like it's a whatsapp conversation in English. He erased the Spanish text to English in order to understand the conversation easier. Or is it not recommended?

Any tips would be much appreciated! Thanks!

While our K1 leg of the journey was a few thousand miles north of you, Cristi, I also included various samplings of facebook messenger conversations. I did not bother to translate them as they would ultimately go to the consulate where they are bilingual in Eng and Span so. Probably doesn't matter - just more paper for them to shuffle through anyway :-)

I wouldn't recommend altering the original whatsapp conversations in that way, although I can't ultimately say if it would impact the visa process at all. I guess the reason I wouldn't is so that they would be able to see the conversations are they are. I suppose you can include the one that your co-worker made as a way for them to read the translated text if they so desire. The consulate people when you get to the interview stage will easily be able to read them depending if they even bother to look at them or not.

That's just my two cents though and I am certainly no expert so take it with a grain of salt :-)
