Consulate Review: Bogota, Colombia
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : May 6, 2017
Embassy Review : My fiance had his interview appointment at 7:30am . I went with him. We arrived the the consulate at around 6:10am in order to beat the traffic that we were told occurs around the morning time. We waited outside on the corner because I guess they don't allow folks to form a line before 7am. We rented a chair to sit until we heard an announcement at like 6:55 saying that anyone applying for K1 or residency visa can enter "sin importar hora de cita" so we tried entering again and the same guard told us that we couldn't enter until our appointment time which was contradicting because the speakers were sayiing something different.

The man told us to wait until come "chicas en chalecos azules" came out to call us, however, they don't really leave the entrance to look for people so my fiance and tried to enter again and this time we did see some girls in blue vests and asked for my fiances passport and asked who I was. They allowed us to enter and we walked this passage outside to this tent with like two tables to organize our documents. They gave us a green sticker identying which visa we were applying for and they put a sticker on his passport. We originally organized our documents and had them in a folder, but the ladies told us that we didn't need the folder and to have the documents "suelto" (even though it was raining) so once we had our documents ready, we had to go through security. Cell phones had to be off and aja. Then we moved on to entering (idk what it's called) and walked to a table where these two girls asked for my fiance's name and they sent him to sit until the next available window would call him.

It wasn't a long wait, but once they called him, all they asked was a buch of pernsonal information questions and where do I live in the US. Pretty simple. Then they gave us a number for our turn for the interview. We walked back to the table with the two ladies and they checked our documents again and told us to wait for our turn for the interview which wouldn't start until 8am. It was 7:25am when we finished everything until that point.

There is a small cafe with food and drinks that you can buy in case you didn't eat breakfast and have an early interview. There are also bathrooms (which I used a bunch of times cuz I was so nervous and cold). And yeah, please come prepared for Bogota weather. It's cold. We went on a day where it was raining soooo extra cold and our feet got wet. Where you wait, is dry, so that's good.

So for the interview, it was very quick. We had a nice gentleman who asked a lot of yes/no questions to my fiance. such as:
-have you ever been to the US?
-do you have any kids?
-do you have a criminal record?

the only question where he had to give an open answer was to: how did you meet?

and the whole time the man was looking at our petition and our photos and then looked at our affidavit of support and the documents that I provided for the interview. and that was pretty much it. he told my fiance we were approved and now we're waiting for the visa to arrive to cartagena in order to pick it up.

We ended up leaving at around 8:30 and walked to a mall that was nearby.
Rating : Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
