So hubby comes to me today with the story of a friend of a friend. Don't know total details but here are the basics

Person came to US with DV lottery , has 10 year gc lives "back east" probably either NC or GA if that makes a difference.

Applied for citizenship , passed interview supposely never heard about oath

Made infopass , went in and they asked him why he had voted , he told them his brother had brought the forms and he filled/sent them in.

They tell him he needs to return in 2 months.

Hubby is thinking they are just going to give the guy his USC because they asked him to come back.

I am thinking they are getting ready to pull the filing and worse.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

Have him get his affairs in order since they are probably getting ready to deport him for falsely claiming to be a US citizen.

I think they may deny it ...but yrs down the line he could apply again

if his story is believed...he'll be walking a chalk line but I don't think

deported IF by some way it can be proven he was clueless he could not vote,

of course this ....That will be a tall order to prove , maybe in 2 mths

they will decide on his story...hopefully he's not deported.

He is in trouble. I would highly recommend he brings a good lawyer to the next appointment.

That they'll "make him a USC" is wishful thinking. :/

This fellow needs an immigration attorney fast, and as much paperwork supporting his claim as he can gather. False declarations of being a USC draws the ire of USCIS and voting is an absolute no-no.

In his situation, I would want to find copies of any paperwork that indicate he never received an oath letter or information regarding the oath ceremony; being recommended for approval by an IO; and the rest.

Is it that easy for a non-USC to register and then vote?

How many non-eligible voters do you think vote each election? It's probably a lot but I doubt it's significant enough to change the outcome.

But it makes you think...

The problem is so many Africans got caught up in Obama fever that all common sense left. Yes it is very easy to accidently register. I warned my husband to never sign anything without asking me. Even the department of motor vechiles tries to help you register. This person is something like his cousins sister in laws brother. I told him I wouldn't be suprised if the 2 month meeting was to yank the green card because from what I understand he basically admitted to sending in the mail in ballet.

I can understand that he is trouble for claiming to be USC (actually he is not till the oath)... If it is a honest mistake & he can prove it, then it is all upto USCIS.

But, I want to question who has given him "VoterID Card", that agency is also at fault. (the information has to be checked in different databases for verfication before issuing voter ID card)... very strange... protest6wz.gifprotest6wz.gif

I was under the impression that it was impossible to vote in an election if you were not a US citizen, i have learned something today. i'm unable to add much, however you have some very clued up members who have advised he doesn't go to that appoinment without a lawyer i would follow their advice.

What do you think this guys chances are 72.39 percent that his citizenship application will be denied.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

My friend from the Islands young daughter (yrs ago) signed up

to vote at the mall, sign up for credit cards instant credit,

she'd just turned 18.... fast forward to right after 9/11 they

applied for citizenship, the girl was now in her 20s, was almost

locked up, they found out she registered to vote, but she'd never

voted ,2 school friends sent letters on her behalf that they on that

day all signed up ,they were pushing for young voters, it was also proven

she signed up for 3 credit cards that day & the mom had her return 2,

it took about 2 yrs to sort out and it finally did, she's now a citizen

& had live here since age 9....he needs an atty to go to appt. some

money saved in his county & a packed bag just in case... I hop h an prove

its a mistake..

Problem is if he is Nigerian rhey will want to think he was trying to get

over on this...that's how some percentage of this country feels.
