I applied for the waiver under the guidelines that I fall under the 150% below poverty level, and sent in all proper paperwork yet they denied it and when I called the number they gave me, he said they couldn't give me any explanation. Just left feeling very confused and hoping someone else can chime in if they'd had a similar experience or any info.

Thanks a lot,

Anthony

I guess my first question is why are you 150% below? Are you employed? underemployed? Are you capable of getting another job? Borrowing the money?

good luck

the I-130 will eventually require financial support documents. Of course you were denied. If you can't afford the application fee how will you financially support the person you're trying to assist immigrate?

That is unfortunate, maybe you can borrow it from your cosponsor.

Just because you are under a guideline doesn't mean they WILL approve, just means they can- but I have never seen a fee waiver approved, and as mentioned above, it is a catch 22; now they will wonder if you/ your co-sponsor can really afford to support the new immigrant if you cannot even afford/ borrow the filing fees.

May I suggest reading the instructions?

Everyone pays the filing fee ($420) and the bunch of other fees along the way (AOS fee $88, Immigrant Visa fee $230, Medical fee $223, Immigrant fee $165).

I haven't heard of anyone being exempted. Sorry.
