anyone ever get RFE'd because of a "scan" instead of a "photocopy"

I know it sounds like a silly distinction but I'm wondering if anyone has every got RFE'd for anything because they scanned and printed, for example their passport, vs doing an actual photocopy. I realize they are totally the same, but a photocopy is much sharper usually but in black and while, while my printer and scanner, are good, but medium quality, but in color which makes the passport stamps stand out more. A couple forum searches here seem to indicate it inst a huge problem but they were older posts, so was wondering if this has been a issue with USCIS viewing them any differently lately.

Thoughts? Thanks in advance.

Typically the problems associated with copies or scans concern original signatures, not the clarity.

Why take the chance? You can get your entire passport color copied for a few dollars.

Unless someone knows different. The Passport should be best Color Copy, page to page. I don't think this has changed. (Even the blank pages) If the Passport is your question. Yes, if black and white and scanned it "Maybe" an Issue. Depends on the mood of USCIS. Likely, a worry if it was me.

But a photocopy is nothing more than first scanning the picture into internal memory, then printing its contents onto a blank piece of paper. The fact that it takes just one button to push, instead of using your PC as a proxy, makes no difference. The passport scan doesn't need to be in color. We submitted the USC passport contents in black and white, making copies at the Office Depot for 9 cents a piece.

The instructions don't say they require color. Photocopying is also a more established process. I mean they've most likely been accepting black and white photocopies for the last few decades. I was mainly wondering in my original question on the validity of my personal scanner and printer where you can obviously tell I used a home printer, vs a professional one.

You are correct. It doesn't really matter where you have them copied, but when I went to Staples to have my passport copied, the entry and exit stamps were much easier to see and read when I used color. I didn't want to take a chance because of a few extra dollars.

I copied everything in black and white at my home copier, even my passport and birth certificate. I was worried we would get an RFE because my birth certificate wasn't a certified copy and I only sent in the bio page of my passport (later in the package I provided passport stamps, but I did not copy every single blank page). We didn't get an RFE but maybe some USCIS workers are more strict. I guess ours didn't seem to mind that I only copied my BC. I guess I was lucky. :P

I did not include color copies of anything with our petition. We were approved on June 18th, so it is not an issue. :)

I scanned in and printed both of our passports and all evidence of meeting (boarding passes, etc), then color printed from that at Fed/Ex Kinkos. Any original form that needed a signature on it was the original with original signatures. I never even thought twice about it at the time. To me copy/scan is the same thing. Maybe I was just lucky? I'm not sure. But I didn't actually copy anything.

There's no chance being taken. A scan and print is exactly what a photocopy is. The difference here was the scanner and printer were in different locations. There's no way to tell the difference between a printed scan and a photocopy because there is no difference to tell. A color photocopy is still a photocopy is still a printed scan.

I agree. I think I misunderstood his original question but I stand by MY choice to either "copy" or "scan and print" MY passport in color because the time/date stamps were easier to read.

It is not a requirement that the copies be in color. They only need to be clear and legible.
