Separate rules for mods?

Welcome to VJ thats how it works..... I challenged a mod in couple post.. mod would threaten to ban you or would come and close the thread......

Most likly even this would be closed or deleted.

context matters. being malicious matters. i don't suppose you asked yourself if that member and i get along well, and then compared and contrasted that to your post?

How is anybody casually reading the forum going to tell the difference? How did you determine I was being malicious, while you were just playing grab ####### with a longtime aquaintance?

Charles – I don’t know how you are in Mod hierarchy but MOD abusing their power is becoming more and more common on VJ.

There seems to be no action from Captain or anyone else… if this continues believe me you will see ppl dropping out of VJ.

Specially when MOD takes illegal actions against the old members who are done with their own immigration but have stayed on here either they like it or they think they might own something back to VJ.

If these guys start dropping out VJ would not have anyone to post response to queries… these guys are the asset for VJ.

Please remember that being a long term member does not give a person the right to be rude and condescending to new members, nor does it give them the right to violate TOS. It does way more damage to the site than the person dropping out of VJ. If you feel like you have been unfairly targeted by a mod, please take it up with Kathryn or Captain Ewok.

When someone makes a post and a long term member responds back saying what poster is looking to do is visa fraud and unfortunately posters does not want to hear this and starts attacking the long term member.

This situation mods have sided for OP.... in this section another thread was going on and dicsussion started to happen about this particular mod.... (s)he comes and closed the thread... how nice

I honestly thought at first that a couple of long term members were just being rude to new members (from reading other people's post) but I had never been part of a forum before, and quickly realized that it was just the truth that these members were saying. Of course, I am easily offended (according to my loving fiancé) so I have just learned to sit back and STHU. lol!!! ?

Many Mods are in a clique with other long term members here. Those regular members get to be moral police for the forum. If anyone of the clique gets their nose in a snit about a post they will have it removed by their friendly mod. There used to be the follow the simple rule here that if one doesn't like the thread then don't enter it but the moral police decided that they should be removed. They now rule this forum so toe the line.

Why should we stay and help others anyway? I got what I needed from the site.

Sorry, I've been away a few days recovering from surgery (nothing serious, don't worry). Nina is right. There is no 'one rule for mods; another rule for everyone else'. We are all bound by the same rules and TOS both when we act as moderators and when we post as regular members. Even though we post as regular members, it is sometimes easy for us to forget - through our familiarity with members and the site - that others are not going to have the same sense of the site as we do. It is easy, therefore, for us to appear to cross the boundaries that we try to ensure are observed by everyone else.

I've read the thread linked above and agree that while context is important, and using the term noob can be used playfully between friends, or sarcastically towards a newcomer, someone not familiar with the nuances isn't going to see the difference and the teasing post can be interpreted as malicious. I have removed the post involved even though it was not meant as a personal attack because it is open to misinterpretation as shown by this thread and left a comment to that effect in the thread.

I will add that some of our longer term members who have become familiar with each other and exchange similar sorts of 'teasing' have complained to us in the past when we have removed their teasing posts as well for the very same reason - that someone new to the site is not likely to understand the context and will feel it is a personal attack. It is easy to be so comfortable with other posters - whether you are a mod or not - that you sometimes forget what it looks like to someone not in the 'know'.

On another matter, I certainly hope that I don't have a 'clique'. I have personal exchanges with a lot of members here, some long time and some newer, but I think they will tell you that this does not make them exempt from moderation if they are in a situation that requires it. I try to do my best to keep those two relationships separate. I try to give the benefit of the doubt to everyone, if I can, but those with whom I have friendly relationships don't get special benefits. And, none of them have ever requested or expected any.

Thanks to Kathryn, the offending post and the post quoting same was removing from thread in question. There is a just power on high. Peace reigns throughout the realm, at least for the moment.
