Why does everyone says it's $18,000?? i looked it up and it says $15,300

If you look at the new poverty guideline here it gives the porverty guide lines that will be used for 2012. However, if you read the USCIS instructions the petitioner MUST make MORE THAN 125% of the povety level for their household size which for a family of two (2) it is $18,912.50 (which is $15,130 times 1.25).

Hope this helps.

I think even those numbers are too low. How can you survive in the USA making 19K a year.

Just as an example the median income required to leave in NYC is 168K.

Sorry but that is not the correct website. The correct USCIS website has already been posted for you.

http://aspe.hhs.gov/...12poverty.shtml

Its 100% for 134 affadvit of support. 125% for 864

The USEM looks at 125% not 100%. They only look at 100% if you are active duty military.

OP: inky is giving you the correct info. It really isn't a debate with USCIS, those are the figures that they use. :bonk:

Good luck on your visa journey.

Depends on the household size. Always use the USCIS latest listing, it does change.

If your fiancee has cash or an income like a pension, you may get through 134 at 100%, as in later 864 stage your combined income could then be 125%. If your fiancee has nothing to bring to the table, better to have 125% at i134, or you will likely be considered a potential public charge. Can you get co-sponsor?

Depends where you live. We could live perfectly fine on an income like that. In fact we DID while living in Houston and Tony was working AND studying full time and I was unable to work.
