Well my first 4 years in the US were in the swamps of South Louisiana; in some cases marriage was literally a family affair.
  2. Thanks

Started this thread 2 years ago in Oct when I filed my I-751. Didn’t receive my permanent GC until after I filed my N-400 and passed the interview. Had my Oath ceremony yesterday and I’m officially done with the process. So very thankful for everyone and their advice.

Goodluck to everyone still on this journey!

    Finally finished!!!
Had my Oath Ceremony yesterday. Applied under 3yr rule. Thanks to everyone from the I-751 forum to the N-400 forum. It was relieving at times to read everyone’s experiences and advice. It helped me to stay calm albeit impatient at times lol. Thanks everyone.

My interview was on a Friday, and the IO said he couldn’t make a decision on my case as of yet because he still had to go over my I-751 (which he had on his desk). He said it’d take maybe 2 weeks or so for a decision.

I logged into my USCIS account on Saturday night (the next day) and saw that my case was approved, and Oath had already been scheduled for 2 weeks away.

A lot of others who also interviewed on the same day I did, also had their oath at the same time.

    NYC Federal Plaza interview update

My husband went for his interview this morning and was approved. Wanted to share his experience for anyone going into Federal Plaza.

There was no one in line when we arrived at 12pm. His interview was scheduled  for12:45pm so we arrived early. After passing security we went up to the 7th floor and my husband checked in. He was called in for his interview at 1pm. The interview was short; around 20 minutes.

Upon entering, he was sworn in and asked for his documents (green card, appointment notice etc). Then they started with the civics questions. He got 6 correct in a row. They then moved on to writing and reading. He was asked:

Reading: Where does the president live?
Writing: The President lives in the White House.

He got both correct. They then moved on to the "How you ever ....." and then the affirmation questions. He was then asked to sign on the tablet.

Once he signed everything, the official started to ask for documents to validate our relationship -- medical insurance, rent, bank statements, taxes, our daughter's birth certificate etc. For the medical insurance, the official wanted documentation but my husband only had the insurance card with him. My husband had all of the other documentation and the official accepted it.  The official asked how much we paid in rent. The official looked at all 4 years of our tax returns that we had printed out. I was glad that we had prepared all of the documents just in case.

By the time we got home, the case status was updated to approved / oath scheduled. The oath ceremony confirmation is available online already -- scheduled 1 month from now.

Good luck all and thanks for sharing your experiences. It really helped us to prepare and feel confident.

When I filed the N-400 application (mid Dec), the processing time said 9 months. Then it changed a couple of times (each time one month less). Then I stopped checking the website for a month, and then I got a notification about an interview date (end of March). I think the last time it showed 6 months. Tbh, I don't think you need to pay attention to the processing time as I believe they say certain amount of months just to be safe if they get slammed with work and running late.

Thanks everyone for your responses. I did look at the link last night and was a little confused lol.

Appreciate all the insight everyone is giving.

To clarify: Why I said he the sole parent - My brother had his baby through a surrogate. Part of the process is getting a DNA test to verify that he is the father and he is provided with the birth certificate. The “mother” was an egg donor.

If case is still at NVC , he should contact NVC to add baby .

He should also email embassy with copy of child’s birth certificate..between the 2 , he will get it done, depending on where case is and timing to his interview .

His surrogacy documentation should suffice, but in case consulate insists on their own DNA , it’s simple and pretty fast , so no big challenges
Thank you for updating consular post/ country….no cultural blocks there

You are not alone…I was way off ( and in my head only 😂) branding brother as an unfeeling cad to take young infant away from the mother.

F2B classification does not allow for derivative dependents.  Assuming the brother with the child is still unmarried and gets an F2B visa he will have to follow-up with an I130 for the child if he has custody (the mother will have a say in some respect).  You should though update the NVC documents to add the child’s information for potential immigration purposes in the future.

    Good Luck!

Can I bring my dependents with me on an F2B visa?
A: F2B visa holders are not able to bring dependents with them to the United States on an F2B visa, they would have to apply for their own visa. https://www.uscisguide.com/visa/immigrant-visas/immediate-relative-family-sponsored/f2b-visa-spouse-or-unmarried-minor-children-of-us-green-card-holders/

Well, the wife had her interview today 10:30am appointment time. I want to advise everyone that this is second hand information from a wired and excited woman so I had to glean portions of the following events: The interview was conducted at our local FO in Irving, Texas or for those not familiar with Irving, you can say Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex. For that reason we left the house at 6:30am, why you ask so early the traffic in this area is horrendous and we did not want to risk traffic and a back log due to a wreck or construction so we gave ourselves ample time (it's about an hours drive anyway).

We arrived about 7:50am so we had a long wait until her appointment time, but we were ready we had pillows, blankets snacks, etc. You know the wife had to bring her make up kits and comb, brush, lipstick, etc since she would be messing her hair up while waiting (women) 😁. The place had interviews starting at 7am so they were in full swing once we got there. They would not let her enter the building until 15 minutes prior to her scheduled time. I knew from talking to several other people as they came out that I would not be allowed to go inside the building.

These are the questions they asked her remember you need 6 correct out of 10. The wife got the first 6 correct so they only asked 6 questions:

    1. Who is your US Senator
    2. Name your US Representative
    3. Who veto's bills
    4. What state borders Mexico
    5. What is Benjamin Franklin famous/known for
    6. What is a constitution

She had a short sentence to read: Who wrote the Declaration of Independence?
Sentence to write: What is one promise that you make when you become a United States citizen?

She said the IO was cordial and told her she had passed the civics and reading and writing portions. The wife said she saw our I-751 package on his desk all 6lbs of it. He asked where her spouse was and she said in the car, it was at that time he told her  the interview was a combination, but there was no need for me to attend. She said he was concerned to see 2022 taxes and he wanted proof that we were living together. He also asked for items from the filing of the I-751 until the interview, which by the way served as items for the N400 too. Mind you all this happened in about 15 minutes she said the IO seemed rushed but he did not miss a beat. The IO gave her a Form N-652 which stated she had passed the civics, written and writing test. It also stated that he would be recommending approval of the I-751 and the N-400.

One important detail I think everyone should know she said the I-751 sitting there in all its glory was basically an after thought and the IO did not waste to much time on it.  He had already gone through it as it was in disarray sitting on his desk. All in all the wife said she was relaxed and the everything  happened like she had studied and we had rehearsed (we did plan on her going inside the interview alone without me.) She was not bothered by that fact since we covered it as a possible scenario before hand.

As of a few minutes ago we got status  saying "Oath Ceremony Will Be Scheduled." Just a side note in all the excitement the wife forgot to take a picture besides the USCIS name plate, so I have to drive out AGAIN this Saturday so she can get dressed up again just to take a picture of the sign on the building geeezzzz!!!!!  End of story!
