    Hi All:

I am now a U.S. citizen. The combo interview (i-751 and n-400) went well. Here's my experience today.

1- We were waiting in the lobby for about one hour. A lot of people who checked in after us got call by IOs before us, my husband then went to the reception to check what was happening with our case, the was told our case was currently under review and the officer will call us once she finishes the review.

2- We were finally called about one hour later than our scheduled interview time, the officer said she only needs me. so my husband hands over all his paperwork to me and gave me a kiss LMAO! the officer was laughing all loud and I was a little bit embarrassed since there are so many people in the lobby lol.

3- The officer walked me into her office and said I was waiting longer because she was reviewing my i-751 documents and just approved, so no need to go over i-751 anymore, just n-400.

4- The officer went over basic information of my n-400 and made a few updates, went over civic test, Yes/No questions, and then asked me if I want to do oath today or wait a few weeks, if I want to do today, then I may need wait with her for a while since the system is slow on updating my i-751's approved status. I said i'd like to wait with her since both my husband and I took a day off for today, she said ok. then a few mins later she was able the print a paper stating I was approved for N-400.

5- She directed me to first floor for oath, I signed a paper in the oath room, and a few mins later I took oath and was given my citizenship certificate.

That's it, when I came out from the oath room, my husband seemed to be more excited than me lol...Anyway that's just my experience, it was overall smooth and efficient, I have a relatively simply case too, both me and my husband are first marriage, no crime, no overdue taxes, both working, similar age, etc. and we still submitted tons of documents for both I-751 and N-400s. and I do believe that the officer went over every page of our applications.

You can pay for a faster service if you want but I didn't need it. They said it would be estimated 12 weeks for standard service

Hoping everyone hears good news soon. It's a long journey but the end is in sight for all of us!

To be fair though, I think a lot of people feel like this, about all sorts of people. That they somehow didn't "deserve" to get something, some position of power, some accolade. I mean, I have had more than a few people say that  I didn't "deserve" to go to an Ivy League school, because...? Because I don't "look" like someone who is a high achiever? Because I don't fit into an underrepresented group? It didn't matter that I worked very hard throughout school to get where I did. I was always going to be a "pretty" girl and anything I achieved in life must have come to me because of that, with the undertone that I must have somehow actively capitalized on my appearance. It's insulting and sexist. When I see people attacking Harris for essentially just being a woman who has risen to the top, making snide comments about how it must have been because she slept her way there, it's the same old boys' club mentality in action that keeps a lot of women from wanting to seek positions of power.

Also there really is no need to worry about pearl clutching. In my experience, a properly hand-knotted set of pearls will withstand a good tug or two but as in a lot of things, you get what you pay for.

That's precious. I am not pointing to you specifically, but I have seen highly gendered attacks on our vice president in this forum. Recently. I was drawing attention to how foul that is. If you disagree with someone on policy grounds, fine by me. But snickering about how a woman in power must have slept her way to the top is despicable. Again I am not saying you did it but I have seen it and did not report how offensive I found it as a woman because when I have in the past I was ignored.

My husband had his oath today! FINALLY DONE!!!

I just want to give everyone a heads up: the oath is happening outside in the courtyard and there's no shade. My husband's face got sunburned from having to be in the sun for so long, so if anyone is concerned about that, be sure to wear sunscreen. 😕  Also, if it's a hot day, be prepared to be comfortable. Thankfully today's weather was very nice.

I was talking to a tablet lol. It's the same procedure as in person interview, just the officer is on the ipad. As I walked in the room, only ipad, printer, and mail tray were on the table. She told me to close the door, took a seat and raised my right hand to tell the truth. The officer asked for my greencard and showed it to her thru the camera to confirm it was me. She asked for my name, address, date of birth all those basic information about me. After that we proceed on the civics questions then reading and writing. She told me that she is going to print something in the printer then asked me to read it. After I read the sentence, she printed another paper for me to write on what she is going to say then show it on the camera. Whatever paper she printed, I had to put it in the mail tray. Then we proceed on the yes/no questions. Again she printed some paperworks for me to sign and verify if everything there were correct. Lastly, I mentioned to her if she needs my 2020 tax transcript and said yes. After all that she told me I passed the interview and printed another paper saying I passed the test and congratulations that I am recommended for approval. That was it, she told me that I just need to wait for my oath schedule. The interview took about 20 minutes.

Hi guys, I went to my interview this morning and I got approved. My appointment was this morning at 9:20am. It was a virtual interview which I did not expect since I was seeing a lot of people being interviewed in person. I am just waiting now for my oath ceremony schedule. Thank god I am almost done with this process.  How long did you guys receive your oath schedule after the interview?

I had my N400 interview on a Friday at 1 pm. We arrived 15 minutes prior and was let in. My interview notice didn’t state that my husband should come along or that my interview was a combo interview. I brought him anyways, along with updated evidence of our marriage (birth certificate for our son, 2020 tax return, updated credit card bills, and original documents of submitted copies, etc. I did not bring a copy of the entire submitted package).

My husband was allowed in, there was no one else in the waiting area at the field office. We waited until my appointment, I was called in and my husband stood up with me to come along. The officer stopped him and told him he couldn’t come in. At that point I thought there wouldn’t be a combo interview.

I was sworn in and asked to sit down. He said he was going to go over both my cases, but he hadn’t had a chance to completely look over the ROC yet. He did complain that there was a lot of bank statements in there “that didn’t tell him very much”. I had also redacted some information from our deed, which he didn’t like (fair enough, don’t know why I did that to begin with..). I said I had the original deed with me if he wanted to look at it.

He started by going over the N400 application and asked me the civics questions (can’t remember all of them)

    ·         Who makes laws?
    ·         Who was the father of our country?
    ·         How many justices of the supreme court?
    ·         Name one writer of the federalist papers?

I got the first 6 questions right and we moved on to the reading and writing. I had to repeat the sentence “Who was the first president?” and write: “Washington was the first president”.

He then moved on to the I-751. He asked when we got married, how and when we met, where we had our wedding, how many people were at our wedding, if my family was present at the wedding.
He asked who the father of my son was and asked to see his birth certificate. The birth certificate was the only additional document that he asked for.

To be honest, some of the personal questions might have been a part of the N400 interview and some for the I-751, I can’t remember exactly what was asked and when.

He said he was approving the N400 but was going to approve the I-751 on the following Monday when he had looked it over more.

I had my oath ceremony Wednesday. My husband and son weren’t allowed in and it was just me and the officer in his office when I took the oath!

If it is a minor details as you mentioned and you were young when it happened, most likely your N400 will be approved after review.

Looking at the processing times for the field offices in Los Angeles and Los Angeles County for what they are worth shows the top end at 15.5 and 17 months respectively, so my guess is any response from USCIS would only be you are still within normal processing times.  Regardless, it does not hurt to try.

    Good Luck!

Ours took 14 months from application to interview date.

EAD/AP are currently taking around 8 months.

Senator cannot “speed” up your process, since it is well within the published processing times.

These are well-known drawbacks of doing a K-1 vs CR-1, and yet people still choose the K-1 because their priority at the time is to be together the “fastest.”
